Hi, Last night I played a gig in my town with my school. We played for less than half an hour and then it was some other bands from my school who played. I only used earplug in my right ear when we played but when the other bands played I used earplugs in both ears all the time.

The thing is that today, I cant hear ANYTHING on my right ear, its like its dead. sad.gif And I think its wierd because it was that ear I used my earplug in when we played.

Please tell me if you have had anything like this or if you know something! feels like I am going to be half deaf for the rest of my life sad.gif

Did you take the earplug out when you were done?

laugh.gif Sorry, it had to be said! That is weird, man. The one you took precautions with gets messed up, i don't have any idea.

Rince your ear(s), maybe the earplug packed some nasty goo together far inside. blink.gif

Hi ErikEklund

First a little advice from a guy who's been nearly deaf the first 12 years of his life:
use your earplugs.. both ears.. everytime you have anything to do with music being just remotely loud (or any other kind of loud sounds)..

It could be earwax clotting your ear.. having an earplug in your right ear all day (or however long it was), prevents the ear from "breathing".. i find that my ears are "sweating" after a while with plugs..

However, if you have that much earwax in your ear (i've had that before as a kid), dont try and get it out yourself (you may put it further inside your ear).. have a special ear doctor do that.. they have really thin "sticks" to get it out..

if it's not earwax it could be something else, and you'll be glad that you went to the doctor.. When i was a kid i had to have some "tubes" or "drain" (dont know what they are called in english), put into my ears twice a year for 12 years.. without them i couldn't hear anything..

So bottom line.. run to your specialized ear doctor.. and hopefully it's "just" earwax.. the ear procedure is not nice, but usually you only need it once (i was a special case)..

I hope it's just some kind of temporary "closure"
since you had plug much longer in your right ear, dunno.
Go and see a doctor anyhow, it's should be solved easily. smile.gif

You can't hear anything at all? It's not ringing? Is your other ear ringing? I would suggest some professional help for this.

I visited the doctor today and the reason I did not hear anything was that a little bit from my earplug was still in my ear. But now its gone and I can hear again smile.gif

Thanks for your help/advice smile.gif

That warm shower is a very good Idea. The steam from the hot water can disentangle wax and such in your ears, nostrils and sinuses.

It's great that it was so simple and that you were able to sort it out smile.gif

Be careful next time mate, always use both plugs, so you don't damage the ears.

I suggest using ER 20 Hi Fi Ety plugs. They give a more broader sound response than regular plugs. I use them all the time, and they are great&safe.

good to hear that.. smile.gif

i can suggest specialized earplugs.. i was about to say "used by musicians" but we are all musicians right..
anyways.. i got mine made at a special clinic that also makes hearing aids.. they are molded specifically to my ears and there are different filters for it.. 9-15-25 db(A)..

They lower the volume without distorting the sound.. also they remove "dangerous" frequencies..

although a bit more expensive, they are awesome.. i can highly recommend them..

Thanks for your help and kind words guys . I am lucky that it was not something dangerous, but from now on I will be even more careful with using earplugs smile.gif

Glad you sorted it out...I guess it could happen to anyone (broken earplug) and I wouldn't think of it as a reason of not hearing. Now I have that possibility on mind...I recommend getting good earplugs (I wrote a review on ER-20s) and always use both...Ears are our most important piece of gear so we need to take care..

Wow man, that's something really odd.
By sharing your case I think everbody would learn some cool stuff about earplugs and ear problems.
Thanx smile.gif
