Hi,

My guitar cable broke last night.... sad.gif

I need to get a new one, I dont need anything massive, infact as small as possible, possibly 2, one from amp to pod and pod to guitar.

I seen the likes of MONSTER ROCK, ELIXIR CABLES etc.. is there a prefered one?

I dont want a cheapy but a decent one.

Also im pretty sure I bought this before:
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/74312

And it never worked with my guitars because it couldnt be used with Active Pickups or something, it wasnt giving the proper gain out of it, does anyone know why or have any info on this?

Thanks,

Rowan

Each cable should be fine for either passive or active electronic if it works ok of course,
maybe the one you bought wasn't working fine in a first place, dunno.

As for the brands, those that you listed are pretty much top class,
Monster, Elixir, GeorgeL's , Planet Waves etc

If you choose from top brands that Muris mentioned you can't go wrong.I recommend paying a little extra and getting a quality cable , its worth it because it will last you a long time (if take care of it of course)...

I`ve used planet waves cables mostly the last three years (Have some other brands in backup).

And I still use my original PW cable, I`ve never had any problems with it! smile.gif

For comparison, a friend of mine often has used this "cheaper" cables. They`re often 1/3 of the price, but he have often had problems during rehearsals and gigs with his cables + he has during the past two years used at least five different cables while I`m just taking it nice with my PW, so good cables are also economical in the long run biggrin.gif

Cheers

I think the PlanetWaves never worked because it was Stereo or MONO or something like that?

It has to be mono unless your guitar is sending stereo signal by some miracle. smile.gif

Sorry for double posting, I just ordered two of the MONSTER 12A (Straight - Angled) cables from eBay for total of £70)

Are monster cables good and worth the money?

Monster cables are great. I've had some of those.
But lately i've been saving abit by using Fender Vintage Voltage cables. They seem to be really durable, and they sound top notch.

I can confirm that quality cables live longer. I'm not sure about the influences on the sound though. I actually wanted to make some tests but I'm really busy with my "exams" right now :/ I use Sommer Cables, they seem to be quite good and the price is ok. Those really expensive cables seem to be a bit esoteric to me.

I always use a Planet Waves Circuit Breaker as my main instrument cable. For one thing, the switch can be very handy, not to mention it's just built well. But the main reason is the lifetime warranty! The cables are pricey (around $30), but if you think about it, you're buying one cable to last your entire life instead of buying a new one every time it goes bad. Just keep the receipt, and as soon as it goes bad, take it into the store. I've replaced mine three times at Guitar Center, they didn't even bother to check the receipt two of the times...

For off the shelf guitar cable then I tend to stick with PW. For custom made cables (which I use in the studio) I like Proel cable and neutrik connectors. For those of you in the UK - try here.

Monster's are an insane value because if you had owned one before, when it broke it would be replace no question's asked. Monster's are covered for life.

Did anyone recommend Klotz? They are top notch as well. I like this model specially:

http://www.klotz-ais.com/cgi-bin/quickorde...=e&nocache=

It has a "silent" angled Neutrik connector for buzz-free connecting.
