Collab is now closed, all spots have been taken.. Look for more of these coming soon!

Hi everyone!
Welcome to my first video collab!

In this exercise I need 10 volunteers to record their best possible lead over the following backing track. You record you take in audio, the video part of the collab just means that I will post a video response with personalized comments to your work. The comments to your will be viewed by the world on Youtube, so make sure you're OK with that before you sign up!

Attached File  120.mp3 ( 1.1MB ) Number of downloads: 367

The suggested scales to use here are C harmonic minor or C minor pentatonic.

Because of the nature of the track, it is possible to use some outside notes in there to sound a little out, but don't try this if you are not comfortable with the concept of playing out.

I'd rather have you focus on creating a coherent solo. It doesn't need to be technical, but please focus on clarity of notes and creating something that ties well together.

The deadline for this is set to March the 21st. That gives you 2 weeks to submit your takes on the upload thread.

If you can't make the deadline, try not to sign up and leave the slot for other players. :-)

If you miss this one, don't worry.. I'll have more like that coming up soon!

Alright. I know I had to quit the last collaboration, but I'm feeling up for this now, as I have lots of time on my hands after I got fired.

Glad you're in Roger!
Sure, the chords are:

Cm Cm Ab G
Cm Cm Ab G
Ab G Cm F/C
Ab G Cm F/C

As you can see, some of the chords are not quite supposed to be in the C minor scale, they are borrowed from C Dorian.
Your ears should guide you. If you are unsure, just use C minor pentatonic all the way...

Looking at this am I correct in saying that I could in principle also use C harmonic minor all the way, except for the F/C chord where I would switch to C Dorian e.g.?

Or alternatively playing C natural minor for the Cm, Ab chords, C harmonic minor for the G chord and C dorian for the F/C chord?

Pff, those groovy funky backings giving me each time again troubles. The harmony changes are there, but i have problems to hear them properly ... i'm the only one having difficulties with this type of backings?
