When i play a power chord on the 2nd fret it sounds in tune... but if i move it to the 12th fret it sounds out of tune.

Do i need to get my guitars intonation adjusted?

Most likely, besides.. it never hurts to get your guitar regularly intonated.
It could also be that your strings are old and dirty.

A good way to check this is to get your tuner and see if the twelth fret on a string goes higher or lower than open string. This way you can easily do it yourself by adjusting untill it's around the same.

Check out this site mate, it has tips on adjusting action and intonation etc, the link is for a les paul but the principles are the same on any guitar.

Do a harmonic on the 12th fret, then play the same note at the 12th fret by fretting it out normally. If the two notes are not exactly the same, then your intonation is out. Do this for every string and make sure they are all perfect.

Sometimes very old strings will mess up the intonation.

Fixing this is another story. It depends on your bridge, but is basically done by changing the length of the string at the saddle.

I hope this helps.

Jim.

You have to check not only the intonation but also the action and check if the neck is straight.

I leave you some videos to adjust the intonation.

A basic Rule of Thumb for setting the Intonation:-
1) Play the 12th Fret Note followed by the 12th Fret Harmonic.
2) If the harmonic is sharp then the string length need to be INCREASED.
3) If the Harmonic is Flat it needs to be DECREASED.

In the full travel of a saddle you will find certain 'crossover' points where you can get the Harmonic and fretted note exact but the rest of the intonation above the 12th fret may still be out!! Small adjustments are the order of play here!!! If you find one of these 'crossover' points the same rules apply to rectifying it! If it's Sharp lengthen the string, Flat Shorten it!!
Depending on how well your Guitar was set up before you shouldn't really have to move the saddles far enough to find any of these points!!!
Hope this helps!!
