Learning to record video could be crucial for your progress - how else can we determine if you have good posture, fingering etc.

I am sure you can get away with an extremely cheap web camera for this purpose!

I don't get pains or anything when playing and i make sure that i'm sat comfortably. Fingering i believe a discussion has been done before and a lot of people agree it's a matter of personal preference and what feels comfortable to each player. Although i see what you are saying it would help a bit, a cheap camera probably wouldn't allow people to see anything in great detail and of course easier to miss things.

I think i'll stick to audio events if any occur, if i have enough money at some point to buy a camera i might look into it

Cameras isn't that expensive anymore. I got my Creative Webcam for about 20 bucks, and it's pretty decent. Check the youtube link in my sig to see how it is.

And please, if there is anything I can do to help with this Rec Program, I'm happy to help! No matter if it's licking stamps or standing on my head for no obvious reason tongue.gif

I think the idea is great but... I think the chance that this will be cool and have a lot of people uploading at first, but then it'll go downhill. A bit like the monthly competition, started with a lot of entries, and now we have four of them. I think a way of going around this problem is to atract more people, for instance by not asking for video! For me, making an mp3 has a low bar, where for making a video the bar is higher, it needs to be something special! Not everyone has a webcam and just starts recording in a snap of a second.

I don't want to be "that" guy, I just think some critisicm (hard word laugh.gif ) is on it's place. Canis once photoshopped a post of mine, and undernetah my avatar he put: Guitar God (884 point) or something like that.... I have to say that was cool!!

You have a point there Kaz, but having a titule on GMC forum could mean a lot for some members, so I think people will go for this idea. Also, idea could evolve in time, and bring some more interesting stuff into light wink.gif

Perhaps the Monthly Challenges could somehow be tied into the GMC Rec Program ...

I think the monthly challenges are tied automatically to the Rec program. Members can send the same video for evaluation to the Rec program. The effort to work on these lesson will be rewarded two times .. can be a nice boost for the monthly challenges.

This is something I'm going to have to learn how to do!!!
I will probably end up asking all sorts of stupid questions of EVERYONE!!!!

PS. What would be the recommended MP size for a camera?? What software, etc???? My new PC is almost here so it won't be long before I'm able to start learning this stuff!!!!

Don't worry too much about MP in the webcam, mine is 2 but I almos always record at 640x480, it's more than enough for youtube and the videos look quite good.
Be sure that the camera is able to record with a reasonable fps and good quality image, problem is that's impossible to determine just looking at the specs in the box.

I use logitech quickcam pro 9000 (as many other members here), and I'm happy with it. I must say it took me afew tries to find the right settings though. Default ones were really laggy. Light is very important, be sure to shoot the vid with as many lights as possible.

Thanks Fran! I've found one that is 8MP and records video at 30 fps which I think should be OK? I'll have a look for one of those Logitech ones as well!!

The 8 MP are probably interpoled, so forget about that. As I said 2 real MP is probably more than you'll need, and even 640x480 (which is like half a MP) is already a pretty good size for REC purposes.

Quality of image is what you need smile.gif The thing is that webcams that provide a decent image quality will most certainly feature 1 or 2 real MP resolution smile.gif
