Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

This was a video I made for the MTP...I hope this counts. It is the only video I am going to able to post up for awhile. I used my Fender American strat and a Toneport GX played through my computer.

Good effort Praetorian. Lets see if we can help you achieve much higher scores, as Emir pointed out you need to have more of a smooth flow to the notes. The way to achieve more flow is to wait till the last possible second before you shift positions. Hold that last note before the "jump" uncomfortably long.

Another way to smooth it out would be work some with your tone control, you could go along way to achieving this by working on your vibrato. A good exersise for this would be to just play the backing track and work with one note in the scale and experiment with different vibrato types. Try to choose one that is pleasing to your ear and practice it along with the backing track, try to make the vibrato blend with the feel of the backing track. You don't want it to be spastic, nor too slow...try to find a balance that is pleasing to the ear.

After you have done that try to practice one phrase of this lesson and work on playing the phrase and put your vibrato into practice on the held note. The vibrato you are using not is really singing, you are wiggling your finger but most of the time its too slow and you are pushing the note sharp, which makes it sound like a glissando rather then vibrato. Be sure when your using your vibrato when you work the string you bring it back to the center line after each sweep of it.

One other way to get it more smooth sounding is listen to what Muris does between each phrase of the jump, he is doing a kind of ghost slide, in your take you are taking your hands off the fret board and placing them in the next position. A ghost slide is just like a normal slide but its not deliberatly sliding the all the notes inbetween positions. Use the Lesson for reference for what i mean. In this particular case you shouldnt be taking your hands off the fretboard that much

Its these kinds of details that will make your guitar playing sing, i really think you can do it if you put forth the effort!

Daniel

Good take, and the rhythm placement was ok. But it all sounds a bit stiff and "chopped" up if that makes sense.
There's lacking a flow between the notes.
Your vibrato has got potential, but it's a bit uncontrolled right now and doesnt always sing right.

Flow and feel was just not in here. I think you need to work more with it to get it all in sync.

I think everything was pretty good, and you just need to fine tune all the things to make even better sounding take. Things that are important to check are precision and muting.
