GMC Quality Poll

AT GMC we are trying to provide the best service possible - we strive to keep things interesting by introducing new programs and activities. But we want to hear from you if we are doing the right things! This is a Poll for you, our customers about how well we are doing at GMC! We will run this poll every few months to check that we are on track, and to ask for any ways in which we can improve on the overall GMC experience. Please vote in the Poll above, and if you have any comments please feel free to add them to the thread!

We have a number of programs going on at GMC at the moment, here is a list of them for those that may have missed the associated announcements:

The MTP Program

The MTP (Mentored Training Program) is an opportunity for GMC members to be paired up with a more experienced GMC member or even an instructor and be guided through the many techniques and practice disciplines that make a successful guitarist. Some people are able to do this for themselves, others though, benefit form a little structure, or just don;t know where to start. As a participant in this program, you will be grouped wiht a number of others of a similar experience level, and your Mentor will suggest lessons for you to work on, and be available to answer any questions you might have.

More details here, to signup just add your name to the signup thread.

The REC Program

The GMC REC (or recognition) program is a way of focusing your practice to achieve recognition within the GMC community and beyond. All you need to do is complete any GMC lesson and submit it for grading by a panel of instructors. If you pass the grading, you will be awarded points and be added to our league table of GMC REC participants. As you improve, you will see your ratings go up. Your REC history is kept, and it can work like a resume of your progress over the time you are in the program. Having trouble getting a spot in a band? Send them a link to your REC page and they can see what you are capable of!

For more information, head over to the REC forum , and read the program description !

GMC Competitions

GMC regularly holds competitions with fabulous prizes such as strings, effects pedals, webcams and more! Some recent competitions have been the Wiki Writers Competition, the MTP competition, and many others. Keep checking the Competition Board for announements!

The GMC Wiki

The GMC Wiki is quite simply the sum total of all GMC knowledge! We have pages there for theory, album reviews, artist reviews, techniques, gear reviews and much much more!

Voted wink.gif I didn't vote absolutely awesome for the video lessons because I think often it's not really a lesson, just a solo to learn.

Voted. I was brutally honest. I feel GMC could use improvement in some areas (although I didn't rate it as 'could use some improvement, because overall, I'm content). I feel that rock and metal lessons are very well represtented, which is obvious, because I guess those are the largest demographic - and that other styles could use more variety in lessons of all difficulties.

For the price though, GMC is unbeatable. And the instructors deserve praise, both for the quality and presentation of their lessons and their helpful attitude in both the forum and chat.

Voted. There is always space for improving, so it was included in my voting, but as Pavlov said, for the price GMC is incomparable, and all in all, I don't know a better guitar oriented site and I browsed many of these, and also don't know any better site on any subject, but there is a chance that somewhere something like that could exist wink.gif

GMC is really an exception. It´s the only community in which I´m active and it certainly deserves the support from so much people who actually create it. I won´t talk a lot because everything is already mentioned or self-evident. smile.gif
Edit: I´d also like more competitions at GMC. cool.gif

I think the community and forum on GMC is just amazing, as it is such a friendly and helpful place. I think the REC program is really good and I can't wait to put up some videos myself when I get my camera working. I do agree with Kaznie that some of the lessons are just songs to learn, although the videos do help me to understand what fingers to use. I also feel that for a lot of the articles in the wiki, you can find a more detailed one on wikipedia, but I defnitely think that there are some parts of the Wiki that are very useful. I also think the MTP is a good idea, and I'm looking forward to more spaces are opened up on it.

Overall I think GMC is a very good resource, especially for how much it costs. smile.gif

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Some of the lessons are just solos/songs to learn....but the instructor spells everything out....chord progression, scales used etc. You should be able to learn a TON from that. This style of teaching is WAY better than..."here is the dorian scale now use it in a song" smile.gif
