I have to learn that!!! I always thought it was to hard, but I'll just skip the intro xD

This is exactly, and I mean exactly, like the Petrucci version...

Very nice player and composer! smile.gif

I think memorizing comes naturally - given the time you need to spend to actually learn to play each part of the solo.

I don't know why guys are so impressed with this. I watched the second video also. Of all those notes, not one single note, not a rhythm or accent, nothing, that displayed any creativity, or true depth some human thing that goes beyond just mechanics.

I mean, listen to this guy

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ra-style-part1/

Now this guy impresses me. Not the only one here that does either. But the kid does not. And I really don't expect any better out of him later, he would show it now, if he was a naturally creative or spiritual type of artist.

Shoot, my rating just went to 4 stars, this is how I shoot it down to 3. Well I can't help myself.

QUOTE (fkalich @ Apr 10 2009, 02:09 AM) *
I don't see it that way, and realize nobody is going to agree with me, but to me he sounds kind of sterile, and I attribute that to way too much backing track practice, or drum beat or metronome. I found him to be very clean, and accurate, which I admire, but a bit uninspired, and so a bit uninteresting.

I use them some for drills, but have grown to solidly feel that if you really ever want to take it to your potential, you need to do most of it on your own, and not overdo the background support. This is not a novel opinion, there have been teachers in the past, who would not even let students use one at all, such as that taught classical. I feel that the background noise not only makes you sterile because of the clock like timing, but also the sound covers up your own imperfections, and lulls you into thinking that you sound better than you really do.

Here is an old recording by an 83 year old woman, on piano.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk23BePlKNA

I came across this when I was learning Hot's Alla Turca, and found that he was quite similar to this, at least I think so. Imagine how good she must have been in her prime. And as far as backing goes, Hot did a fine job on the backing. And I like playing against it some.

I was trying to figure out her bpm, and found she was all over the place, ranging maybe from a little over 120, to maybe 145. That is how you play music, not like you are a robot.

Anyway, everyone who read this can tell me how stupid I am, and how I don't know anything, although I am going to continue to be stupid like this, because it makes sense to me.

I completely agree with you. I do not see anything special about this young man. I'm not trying to be mean, rude, or disrespectful to anyone, but most of the instructors here at GMC are better players. Yes, I agree that he is very clean, and accurate, but so is a drum machine!! I would like to have a little slop, and a lot more feel. Sorry, just giving you my two cents.

My respect to what this guy does comes from the fact that he is still young guy (perhaps he is not even 20 years old ?), which in my opinion gives him head start for later development. He has already mastered technical aspect of instrument to some high extent, he needs to focus on musicality now and originality.
I agree with you fkalich, I am not in any way in love what this guy does, but he does deserve support for what may come out later in 5-10 years.

He is very good for his age !!! Its always good to use the metronome or backing tracks when practicing but as mentioned by fkalich , one has to be able to to play freely and with a feeling too, in order to be good musician!
