well man, I´ve prepared this first one, to see how you play it.
I know you´r having problems with recording right now, but don´t worry about it.
just practice the etude for one or two days and then, we´ll discuss how it was. ok?

you told me that you are having problems with rhythm guitar, but your lead guitar is just fine. so, we try to find the "missed piece" into your rhythm guitar learning.

be free to ask any question.

i have been looking at your rhythm guitar for beginners as an example and i dont understand how do you keep the high e and b strings muted while playing the chord?
in the mean time i either dont mute it at all or play the note with my first finger a bit sideways so it mutes the strings below or i just dont mute it at all and just mute it when i do the 0 0 on the string above. i think i will do a combo of both but i still would liek to know what you do?

well, you have to use a little bit of palm muting, everytime you are playing.
in metal it´s a main rule, cause we use high gain all the time, and that´s so noisy.
so, try to find a comfortable palm muting position to block that unwanted noise.

its not perfect and that's as close as i was able to come to your tone even though i really lack in bass in treble. but i think i made nice progress overall. and i never knew how helpful it is to use backings, it really speeded up my learning process and also made it much more fun. i used to only use a metronome or mostly my sense of rhythm(not something i would write home about)

well man, first to all, very well done, I don´t care about bad sounding, these videos are so useful to see how you are playing things. so, don´t worry about sounding right now wink.gif

about playing...

mtp_video1:
well, you´ve played it so well, but main problem´s timing. try to stay a little bit more relaxed, your left hand fingers are so hard. you have a good digitization, so try to relax hands to get a smoother sound.
anyway, I think you nailed this first one, so we could pass to another one a little bit harder.

rhythm_for_beginners_start_video:
well, it´s well played too, you are playing it correctly.

so, ready to pass to the next one?

i think maybe i should change the way i hold the pick while playing rhythm. im currently holding it very tight like a fist while im playing and i think it maybe limits me a bit. when i get some free time ill try to record the first lesson again with my hand and pick looser and see if i can get a better groove

edit:
wow i was trying to loosen up my hand adn than i realized how tight i was holding my pick and my picking hand.
definitely feels better to loosen up.

oh and i just went to lesson with my RL teacher and showed what was i practicing and he said maybe i should consider buying a pick with less attack so i bought what i think that you play, dunlop m3. really nice one for less shredy sweeps and rhythm playing and it really gives me a chance to loosen up because i need to use less force.
