Lost My Speed :(, man...what tragedy

Apr 15 2009, 09:58 PM	Accomplished Tone Guru Posts: 959 Joined: 13-July 08 From: Oslo, NO	I`ve not been able to practise properly for weeks now...I`m just doing so many other things at once...like now, sitting on the forum And I`ve done some testing today, and I`ve found out that thing`s was worse than I feared. Before, I could maintain a steady AP-exercise with 1/16 notes while playing at 180 bpm, and for a short while at 190 bpm (which corresponds to 1/16 triplets in 120 which I find quite fast). Now, I have to rest after a minute going in 160 bpm I knew I`d lost some speed, but not that much! Are there any AP-exercises which are more effective than others (since lack of time is one of the reasons for my bad practising, or so I say at least)? And also, considering this loss of speed, I`ve decided to focus mainly on AP the next weeks. I need practise on all techniques, but I find this the most important one "shredwise" to manage since almost any song has more AP than sweep, tap etc. The problem is that so much AP-practise might be boring. Does anyone have some recommandations about good and fun lessons on AP? I know there are a lot here on GMC, but would like some opinions on which ones you guys likes best since I`ve just tried a fraction of them. If it's the progress then i suppose you just should practice when you are practicing and not just fool around if that's what you do And i don't have any lesson to recommend atm, but maybe you can check the guitar lessons thing in the left corner of the site? Bah, I find those numbers very different from lessons to lessons. Muris` 9-10 are usually impossible and. 5-1 are usually easy (some exeptions at 5 and 4). Still, I managed Pavel`s c-box alternate something at feel speed which was classified 9 (I combined both EP/AP though it was meant to be an ap exercise) and There are 6`er lessons which I can struggle with. Cudos to phrasing, it IS one of the most important things in playing, and believe me, it's much easier to get back to same technique wise instead of pushing phrasing abilities! Speed is important but with proper practice you can only get faster and back to where you were, If not even better. Always remember though, Speed is great, but Phrasing is what people remember. Phrasing is telling someone a story, your own story. Ever guitarist writes there story differently, and there are times when we are playing the same sequence of notes, but how we convey the message to the audience, Is what really counts. I used to want to be a shred guitarist, and I still do ! But hell, If I could be like BB. King or Jeff Beck, and play one lick and people know instantly that its me, thats what realy counts.
