Hi GMC

I want to drop a video in the REC forum.
I use line6 Gearbox for the Guitar
I use Musicmaker to record the lead
I have a webcame (lenovo)

I have been testing this morning but... the sound is bad because the web mic was used, the pictures aren't that clear and when I record the video i get latency problems... which involves the recording

What do you use when you make a video: webcam or videocam

How do you record the lead and backing and mix it with the video?

What tools do you use for mixing both (video-music)

Maybe you can explain it step by step what your are doing to record because i am a new bee.

Thx in advange

All the best

Sometimes webcam, sometimes videocam. When I recorded my take I import it in a video editing software, Windows Movie Maker.

I use Reaper which is a DAW. I create two new tracks: the first one I use for recording and the second one plays my backing track (which I have to import). After I´ve finished recording, I render the whole thing into an mp3 file.

I use Windows Movie Maker. You have to import both audio and video file. Then it´s just a matter of getting the two files synced together. smile.gif

Clear?

Hi Tolek,

Yes quit clear.

The webcame sucks.

So i am now using my Canon Powershot S3IS photocamara to record the video. This give much better video and i also records the sound better.

What kind of videocam do you use?
Do you import your backing as a mp3 file in DAW?

Robert found your topic smile.gif

I will try to help you out here.

You can record using both Webcam and Videocam. It helps if you record with better quality cam as picture quality (resolution) and lighting might become more natural.

You need two programs to make things work.

For Video editing you can use FREE software thats already in Windows. Its called Windows Movie Maker. You can find it under START/ALL PROGRAMS under your lower left of the screen. You will need that software to import already recorded video and audio file and sync it in it !
You can use another program, its called VEGAS. In a long run Vegas is much better software. Allows you to do many more things with video and audio editing. Thats why its expensive smile.gif However feel free to go with Windows Movie Maker for now, and in the meanwhile get TRIAL version of VEGAS and try to do things in it (it will make huge difference - much easier to work with!).

For Audio recording and editing you need some sort of DAW (DIGITAL AUDIO WORKSTATION).
There is many of these available, Reaper is used by a lot of GMC members since its FREE.
What you basically need to do in that software is open TWO AUDIO TRACKS, ADD BACKING TRACK ON ONE, RECORD YOUR GUITAR ON THE SECOND ONE. The final step is to EXPORT your recording.

In the whole process it is essential that you have DAW running and recording as your WEBCAM is recording !
That way you will have very quality source which you can later match in Windows Movie Maker !

I hope all this makes sense Robert, let me know if you have any questions !

When I don´t use my webcam (QuickCam E3500+), I use an old Sony Cam (dunno which, but it works biggrin.gif).
Yes, mostly the backings are mp3 files, so I import them as mp3. The point is that it should work. wink.gif
BTW, for exporting/rendering in mp3, you should install lame. Just copy the .dll file and paste it in the main folder of Reaper.

Hi Pedja,

Thanks for your help.

I am gonna try things out and why I have problems or questions I will post them here.

I think there is enough experience on GMC to sort them out.

You welcome Robert !

Test it out with 10 second clip, doesn't have to be REC recording. It may sound difficult at first but once you get a hang of it becomes very easy (almost automatic smile.gif
