Myself and a couple of buddies were driving back from an Amon Amarth show yesterday, and on he course of our 4 hour drive, we started devising a system which would determine how metal you are. I'm not sure precisely how high numbers will go for the average metal head, so I'm attempting to see how it works out.

Metal Points System.
1 for ever year you've listened to metal
1 for every 10 metal albums you own
1 for every 50 metal albums you have downloaded
1 for every metal vinyl
1 for every metal show
1 for every 100 miles traveled for a show (return trip is not a factor)
1 for every shirt obtained at a metal show
1 for every 3 picks obtained at a metal show
1 for every drumstick obtained from a metal show
1 for each piece of signed metal paraphenalia
1 for playing an instrument
1 for playing in a metal band
1 for playing live with said band
1 for each demo this band has released
2 for each full length album available on a metal record label

2 if you ever saw Death (or any other band defunct through member death) live
2 if you saw Metallica before 1990

And here's an example of how it works out for me -

4 - years
26 - CDs
13 - shows
25 - miles traveled
12 - shirts
5 - picks
7 - signed stuff
1 - instrument
1 - band

personal total - 94

If you guys have any ideas for the "Special" 2 pointers towards the bottom, let's here 'em. Also, constructive feedback is win.

This is cool! I think that (only counting original CD's, remember that I'm from the Cassette ERA, and I have hundreds of shoes boxes with them) I'm around: 81.

So with all those cassetes and with the actual mp3s I could increase that number a lot, maybe I could double that number! biggrin.gif

Nice Idea smile.gif

I have 45 points based on your system sad.gif But like Praetorian I got 2 for seeing Metallic before 1990 smile.gif. Like Gabriel though, I am a product of the cassette era and I have cases upon cases of old cassettes (most of them 80's thrash and hair metal \m/) so I may score higher if I can count them and mp3's

1 for ever year you've listened to metal
not fair, ive been hearing metal all my life only started listening a couple of years ago.
1 for every 10 metal CDs you own
2 points
1 for every metal vinyl
40 points (but they are my wife's so does that count? i will take it as a no for now, pending stewards inquiry)
1 for every metal show
1 point
1 for every 100 miles traveled for a show (return trip is not a factor)
0.5 points
1 for every shirt obtained at a metal show
0 points
1 for every 3 picks obtained at a metal show
0 points
1 for every drumstick obtained from a metal show
again 0 points
1 for each piece of signed metal paraphenalia
nope none here
1 for playing an instrument
7 points (only 4 if playing the decks dont count)
1 for playing in a metal band
2 points
1 for playing live with said band
2 points
1 for each demo this band has released
you kidding we only played one gig (each)
2 for each full length album available on a metal record label
HA HA HA
2 if you ever saw Death (or any other band defunct through member death) live

You have 260 only metal CDs and traveled over 2500 miles for 13 shows? You're dedicated!

I get a score of 58

The biggest flaw I've seen in the way i have this se up is the cassette deck thing, so I changed CDs to the more general albums. I give more points for Vinyl because it's a little harder to come by, and is a large amount more metal. I'm not sure if I'm going to count mp3s because it doesn't take much dedication to get mp3s. You have to really want CDs and such.

And yeah, any time I wan to see a show, I have to drive roughly 200 miles, usually more like 250, but I rounded down.

I also wan to deal with festivals differently, but I'm not sure how. I was thinking a daily thing, but I'm just not sure. Any suggestions?

Edit: added another point value for if you've got 50 albums downloaded. It's a decent enough commitment to have that much, even if you haven't supported the bands at all for giving you that much enjoyment.
