Seems like an easy "fake" to build. Makes me nervous about buying from the internet.

Interesting. If there is a serial number maybe you can track it on internet and see if it is an original. The best thing when buying online is to search for something close where you can travel and see yourself. Maybe the neck is not ok and you can't see that on the picture. This strat doesn't look like anything special, I am sure you can find better stuff if you're looking for a SRV signature.

my tech told me that strats are the easiest guitars to make (counterfiet) ....even if they are fake, its hard to tell, and they could play as well as an original since like he said, they are easy to make.

Especially this line I think...You can buy all those parts and slap them on a mexi strat or a Squier and scam someone! I hate dishonet people like that...but we all know they are there.

I agree with Emir...I try to keep it local and check things out in person!

With internet purchase you just never know...I would recommend getting a guitar from a famous online store or locally which is the best option..You need to tryout the guitar yourself..Never buy used guitar online which you can tryout..

Hm.. it looks real with the reverse tremolo and all. But it's still hard to say if it's a fake.
As Emir said, ask for the serial number and you can check it on the internet.

Think it would be more difficult than you think to fake this particular one, it has the custom shop pickups which are easy to check, jumbo fret wire on a pau ferro fretboard should be an easy spot too. Thing is, if you put all the parts on a standard to fake it for this one, havent you got the same guitar anyway!?! huh.gif laugh.gif

biggrin.gif I've played a Real one in a music store in germany, it was strung with 0.15s or something. It was beautiful! But was a real fender.

How the heck is it that cheap? Like... a quarter of the one in the music store?

What scares me about buying anu guitar online (not only ebay, but also shops) is that even if the item is legit, you haven't tried it to check it's in proper shape, no bad spots on the neck, electronics, finish etc.

I didn't know there were many fake SRVs. One more thing to be worried about buying guitars online sad.gif

Yeah I know mate, and I've heard about lots of Strats being fake, and real Strats that have replaced low grade parts (specially the neck and pickups). It happens all the time. If you are buying second hand vintage Strat, better get ready for some serious Strat history study. The positive thing is that because there are a lot of fakes, people have made great tutorials and articles about recognizing the original based on some features on the components.

In this case, the seller has 100% positive feedback going back to 2004. You can't fake that. Also, if you want more/better pictures you can always request them. The serial number is provided.. that is easy to check. Too late on this one probably.. ending in less than 24 hours.
