I've been to Finland a couple of times so maybe I can help giving an unbiased view also
So, just tell what kind of things you want to know. If you are going to Helsinki I can give some tips on restaurants and so on... One thing to mention: Laponian food is worth experimenting, but I had "day after problems" when I ate it . So eat when you don't have meetings the next day This post has been edited by Gus: May 22 2009, 06:20 PM -------------------- my "Thank you GMC!" video

I'm going on business trip to Finland first six days of June and need some practical information I have a tip on what not to. Don't enter a sauna contest, the finnish are the world champions!! When in Helsinki I always buy dounuts (since they are way better than the swedish ones), there's a store in the basement of the center, right by the tram-C - can't recall the name of the store, Kokos or something. (Yeah.. it's not a very large center) I also get clean out the shelf on pikku nakki (small sausages). Sausage in my taste! If you've got the time you could take a trip to Åland (Aland) or Estonia maybe, but I think you may be too short on time. Another food tip is to take a walk towards the docks and visit the market, walk to the indoors market and buy some cheese or something. Hirvimakkara (spell?) could be exotic, sausage from moose. ...yeah, my trips are all about food The Cathedral is worth seeing. Close to the center, lies rather high you should be ablt to spot it from a distance and there's plenty of stairs. There's a casino if you're into that, a bit so so that one. Walk through the city or get a tourist day card for the tram. Walking is possible since there's no real distances. -------------------- My bands homepage

I only have one recommendation: Check out some metal shows!! Hahaha, great advice. Well might sound strange but that country is all about heavy metal or mostly. Someone mentioned Aland. I've been there 2 years ago, very nice islands but I don't think Dejan will have time for it. My label is from there but I went from Stocholm which looks much closer than Helsinki. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

I will be accommodated in Vantaa, not so far from Helsinki and will travel to Tampere one of the days. The only time when I will be really off will be on Friday afternoon and evening, since the following morning I will fly back. And what I really need is some tips, what sites to visit in Helsinki, Vantaa and Tampere, something worth seeing like some historical sites, architecture and so on Thanks for the tip for food, I have meetings every day so will not play with food Hey Dejan. You should definitely take a walk in Esplanadi Park (it's right on the center). It is specially nice during summer. For one afternoon program I would suggest you then to walk to the port and get a boat to Suomenlinea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suomenlinna If you get the daily tourist ticket you can get a ferry for free to Suomenlinea In Tampere, there is a high tower you should try to visit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%A4sinneula_tower The view is really really worth. The lakes near Tampere have different heights (18m) and that's quite interesting to see. If you can afford dinner on the tower it is really nice, since you get a 360 view on about 1 hour and a half (I don't remember how expensive it was because I had daily allowance since I was on business travel). Thanks for recommendation, since you are from Finland do you know anything about Finnish pre-paid mobile phone cards, I need to get one there for sms and to make calls to Bosnia, as I heard not all pre-paid cards can make international calls If I remember right I bought Sonera pre-paid card and I was able to call Brazil. But you should check it beforehand, of course. In Finland you can buy pre-paid cards even on convenience stores... Thanks Gus, this helps a lot Did you have any troubles sleeping, since the night is very short? Yes I could barely sleep first time I was there. But I was coming from near the equator Nowadays I can sleep finely in Denmark. Maybe for you the difference will not be so huge and you can cope with it well.
