I have recorded my latest effort for you all to listen to.

I know its not perfect, I have been practicing this for the last 2 days and have the timing about perfect but I can hear I could do with a bit more practice to improve some of the vibrato on the bends.
The the last 2 bars are frankly pretty rubbish, That little bit is just too quick for my slow fingers, I just cant seem to get them right.
I have recorded it about a dozen times in the last 2 hours and self critiqued it lots. Anyway, this is about the best recording I could do so far.
Hopefully by next week I should be happy with it but for now, take a listen.

If you know any Gilmour/Pink Floyd stuff you will recognise the style immediately and you may even recognise a few licks in there.

** see further down the thread - I Practiced and re-posted **

Hi Fret dancer !

I'm a big Pink Floyd fan, and for me this was very evocative of their style, I really liked it. I thought it captured the mood of Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1 with a few licks from the solo in ABITW Part 2 - and there are some great ideas in there. How did you get the lead sound?

IMO, the biggest thing you can do to improve it revolves around the timing of the licks - I think you need a little more practice so that they become more fluid. Also, a couple of the bends weren't pitched quite right (although DG does do a lot of really wild bends!)

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed it!

Cool - really nice feel to it!

Bare in mind that with this kind of mix it's virtually impossible to hide any playing mistakes - so I think you did a good job. smile.gif

So what do you guys think - better than DragonForce?? blink.gif blink.gif biggrin.gif

Well Andrew, looking at your kit, which is pretty much the same as mine, you would have no trouble getting that sound - I used my Variax on Spank 5 (for the uninitiated that emulating a '59 strat in the neck pickup) through a Pod XTL using a patch from custom tone called "antrBrkNTWLDt-SC" though I did fiddle a bit with the eq settings slightly.
I am not 100% happy with the patch but its about as good as I have found and bearing in mind I am using a budget rig, its not a bad tone.
The backing track I bought from http://www.bluesjamtracks.com/ they have some excellent backing tracks though they are not free but very cheap - each comes with a tab for a solo to match and you are free to use them as you want. Some great stuff on there. Check out the free sample - its a cracker.

Thanks for the comments too, very kind, I know towards the end the bends go a little "off" but I hope by next week to have it perfect.

OK - I should not have posted before I was ready, I played back several times and now I feel a fool for posting so soon - it was not ready.

I took another half hour practice and tried again - here it is re-done, I think the bends are more in tune and it flows just a tad better.
Imagine how good it will sound next week !!! lol

Definitely more flowing - that's what this is all about, improving ourselves. Actually, I think this is a great way to improve and map our progress - post a song that you find hard, then re-record and re-post every month or two to show improvement - think I'll put something together this weekend ...

BTW, I LOVE that lead sound, but couldn't find it on custom tones - any chance you could post it?

Thanks!

There still is some off-bending - but we are interested in hearing the progress not perfect recordings. smile.gif If we had people doing perfect recordings they wouldn't need the site!

Hint: to play the bends in pitch record a take where you dont bend (you can slide instead to the right notes instead) - then practice to this recording.

Kris

It's very good, the only thing I didn't like was the pitch of some of the bends. It's very very melodic however, love it.

If possible can I have a backing track and/or a tab?

The backing track and tab can be found here
http://www.bluesjamtracks.com/
very very cheap.
I would normally share without thinking about it, but I think they are being very very fair by putting together some really good quality backing tracks and a good tab to go with them as well as a powertab file too for a really small amount of money. Its refreshing to see some good honest value for a change.
I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Does the tab include the leads?

its ONLY the lead part that I played in that bit thats tabbed. They dont tab out the actuall backing track.

If you go to the site there is actuall a free sample to download thats pretty cool - go the FAQ section and try it.
