I don't think that favorite guitarist would be a good poll thing because there are so many but mine is Steve Vai.

I think that it would be a good topic. Because People can explain their choice and say what makes them so good, so in turn we can identify what we need to do to one day be on that list biggrin.gif

I picked Jimmy page (and no, im not biased in any way lol)because of his contrabution to music greatly helped to make metal/hard rock what it is today and because of his amazing riffs (black dog , heartbreaker whole lotta love etc.....) and his jaw dropping solo's (too many to name)

My personal favorite solo is by him as well. >>Since Ive been loving you<<
If you havent already heard it chek it out!

My choise is easy, jimi hendrix
not because he's the best player (how do you define best?)
but i think he's wrote the best songs, songs that are totally different from anything i ever heard
and sound like they come from another planet, for me he's at lonely height

other choises are jimmy page, slash, bb king, SRV
i really like their music, but it never came close to jimi

My choice is also Jimi hendrix, i agree his songs are incredible. I also chose him because he plays with so much feeling, and he has inspired so many guitarists.

Tony Iommi!

Begone heathens and face it! Heavy, simple and catchy riffs will blow the rest away any day wink.gif

I will not begin a rant on Hendrix because I know its a waste of time wink.gif

yes, Toni Iommi rules.

But he himself admits that jimmy page is a better guitarist then him, iread it in an interview!

But Iommi wasnt the backbone of sabbath, Ward(drummer) was. When he left the rest fell apart.

(someone vote for clapton! How could Vai be winning!!!????)

but many guitarists are very modest...thts just another reason y guitarists rule!!! And this entire thread is pretty pointless seeing as people like clapton and bb king play completely different music to some one like joe satriani or iommi

My favorite guitarists are the ones who have such an original sound I know who who's playing even if I've never heard the song before.

Carlos Santana, BB King, Tom Scholz, Terry Kath, David Gilmore, Jimi Hendrix, and Van Halen are just a few.

Some of my favorites are Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Andy Timmons, Marty Friedman, Jeff Beck, Guthrie Govan, Kiko Loureiro, David Gilmour, etc etc...

I also like some jazz stuff like Joe Pass. He has some of the most amazing solo guitar work I've seen.
