I'm thinking about getting a new DSLR and would be interested in opinions/advice. Budget is @800UK pounds to include a standard lens. Main use is still photography, video isn't a big thing for me. It's to replace/work alongside our rather old Sony digital mini.
Rok - your new D90 looks great and is a front runner (just in budget with a 22-110mm lens). Hey Tony, The biggest reason I went with the D90 was that it shot video where the Eos450 did not. Both are great cameras but the Nikon I found was just that little bit better (higher ISO, Video option, better LCD screen etc) Here is a side by side comparison that may help you. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_po...90&show=all The only thing I can really say is if you can get both cameras in your hands in the store it's a big help, especially since the video is not a big factor for you. I liked the ergonomics of the Nikon a lot better then the Canon. And the controls seemed easier to access, which was another big selling point for me although the Nikon is a little heavier. I think you'd be happy with either one really, Nikon and Canon are great camera companies and both have a great array of lenses... although Nikon tends to be a bit more pricey from what I've seen. The Sony A700 is another great DLSR to look at.. not to throw more at ya or anything  But I find with cameras it really comes down to what is more comfortable in your hands. rok |

The Panasonic looks great Bondy but isn't quite what I'm after . (Wife would probably prefer it so maybe I won't tell her about it  .)Great info Rok and I think the idea of actually getting a hands on is good. To date all I've had is the odd DSLR in isolation - one at a time. Then when I try to compare its a bit hard to remember exactly what was great about each one! The idea of the Canon comes from my sister-in-law and a cousin. She did a photography degree and he's worked as a pro fashion free lance photographer for nearly 30 years. Lot of peer pressure there  so the comparison guide is really great  .I like Sony generally (and we can normally get a good discount direct) but their first DSLR didn't quite do it for me - bit to basic.
