What guitarist's styles are you blending into your style...
I have a couple of them at the moment.. Gilmore - for his feeling and phrasing hammett - for his fast pentatonic runs Van Halen - for all his pinch harmonic and harmonic playing not much into sweeps and tapping yet, Id be happy just blending these two styles into mine This post has been edited by Outlaw2112: May 31 2009, 05:33 PM -------------------- |

Rob Barret-I love his riffs, so off kilter and heavy.
Doug Cerrito-His playing is so technical and precise, it blows my mind. Jon Levasseur-He does things with the guitar I cant even comprehend, Just amazing at lead and rhythm. Thats about it for right now. -------------------- My Gear:

I have to Add Pat O'Brian, He is one of the best lead players ever, the way all his solos fit the songs is amazing.

I try to mold my playing style from a lot of diffrent players; I want my rythms to be ultra tight and my solos singing but also shreddy...
Rythm players: Rob Flynn: Unconventional style Will Adler/Marc Morton: Tightness Dimebag Darrel: For obvious reasons James Hetfield: Downstroking and chromatic riffs Scott Ian: Precision while moving arround Max Cavalera: Unconventional, simple but effective riffs John Schaffer: Right hand precision and control ...and just about any Thrash Metal guitarist Lead players: Michael Amott: Perfect balance between feeling and shred Syu: Sense for melodies Zakk Wylde: Pentatonic shred Gus G: Perfect phrasing Jeff Loomis: Sweeps and scale use Slash/ Gary Moore/ Michael Schenker: Feel -------------------- ![]() Gear: - Jackson USA Select KV2 King V with EMG 81/85 - Gibson Les Paul Custom Arctic White with EMG 81/85 - Ibanez Rg 8527 J Custom 7-String with DiMarzio Evolution and Air Norton - Peavey 6505+ head with Marshall 1960AV 4x12 cab - Peavey Vypyr 30 Practice Amp - Dunlop Crybaby From Hell, Maxon OD808, Boss TU-2, MXR CarbonCopy, ISP Decimator, MXR Custom Audio Electronics Booster |

I'm trying to get some kind of mix of Hendrix, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Buckethead (his soft stuff), Jeff Beck, Paul Gilbert and my guitar teacher.
Edit: I forgot Robin Trower, Robert Fripp and Steve Howe. Most important of those influences I listed are probably Hendrix, Åkerfeldt, Fripp and Howe, This post has been edited by Fsgdjv: Jun 4 2009, 01:09 PM -------------------- |

Great thread!
I've been influenced by Satriani for a long time for his legato. But recently I'm trying to get more into Fusion type phrasing. My life changed after hearing Guthrie Govan... :-/ -------------------- www.youtube.com/Wallimann

I also agree it's a great thread. When I pick fast it's definitely Paul Gilbert. My phrasing is similar to Vinnie Moore. For bluesy feel I am thinking of Robben Ford, SRV and Gary Moore. There are some others that are worth mentioning, like Eric Clapton and David Gilmore.

Satch, Vai....for their legato tapping and tremolo use. In the last 6 months or so it has been Muris and Emir.....I'm a long ways from using their influence though. Damn AP!!!!!!!

Gary Moore for his awesome ferocious picking style and phrasing, SRV for his pentatonic blues riffs and shuffle rythyms and Ivan Milenkovic's masterful legato runs!
If i could master these i couldnt care less about tapping, sweeps or anything else!!! |
