It's a feedback reducer, it's mainly used for live shows, if this is what you mean

exactly! Can this this be used to get a lower unplugged sound? This reducer damps "acoustic" part of your sound and it'll have effect only if your guitar has a mic inside and not pickup in the bridge. I guess with unplugged you mean pure acoustic? -------------------- Youtube

If you mean acoustic sound as Muris said, the sound with the reducer will be dampened, treble will be cut. You can expect more muddy sound from the guitar.
It's usually used when you send the signal from microphone inside the acoustic guitar to the PA system so you don't get feedback. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
