Darn!

Im at work just now, everywhere I look though on websites to buy the amp all say they take 16OHMs and that WIKI upgrade site says it too....

I hope someone here has a Valveking 112 and can let me know if it can take the 16 OHMs, but all the signs say it should.

huh.gif man this is stressful

That's odd. Are you positive the speaker in your says 8? I checked around a bit and everywhere says 16

Could it be then that you have an older model or something?

Ok I contacted PEAVEY direct and they says that all VK112 come with 16OHm and there was no 8 Ohm version.

So im gonna get my partner to check when she gets in at 5 and phone me, then hopefully I can change it before they dispatch it.

Is 8 better than 16?

Is 8 better than 16?

You have to have what works, neither is "better" from that aspect ... to not complicate matters.
But you have to use what the amp is constructed for. Using 8 where it says 16 is like fuling up a car that runs on gasoline with diesel. ...ok, bad one but the best I could come up with. Gotta run!

Ok my amp stuff is going to be here tomorrow....

Ive looked at the back of the amp and it says 16 OHMs...... huh.gif my god I must be loosing it lol.

So when I get the stuff tomorrow, the speaker is literally just unplug old and put new one in. The tubes I need to make sure the single digit on the side of them are the same and if there not rebias them.

What would happen if I put them in and turned the amp on without rebiasing them?

Ok I got all my gear today, now we have removed the speaker and put the new one in place..

Now ive removed the power tubes and on it it says : RUBY 6L6GC-STR and it also says on a sticker PC: 48 and TC: 340

On the Tung-Sol 6L6GC it says OTM 2 and MADE IN RUSSIA 07 12

Are these safe to just pop in or do they need rebiased?

OK..... emmm... little bit of a mess huh.gif

I put it all together, we plugged it in, seen the standby light then left it for 10mins. Then powered it on, it was playing and sounded alot better but not right somehow. Its like it was cutting out sometimes and making a click noise. Then we tried a different guitar, same problem. Then we done just guitar to amp (took away to the podxtlive) and it was doing the same but then it made a loud crack noise and my friend claimed to see the speaker go white huh.gif

Turned it all off.....

Could someone please tell me what could be wrong etc or have I endangered us all! huh.gif

First off, you need to bias it.

Did the speaker go white? huh... does your friend have strong imagination or?

Crackle/pop/click noises suggest to me at least that there's a power tube problem. Try plugging the old 6L6 ones in and see if the unwanted noise remains.
If it does, do the same with the preamp tubes until you can detemine if it's the preamp or poweramp tubes.
Then mix old and new tubes until you can determine exatly which tube is faulty (if there's a tube problem that is)

If the click and pop sound remains no matter which tubes you have plugged in, try changing the speaker and see what happens.

Ok first off, how do I bias it then???

Second, is it going to be safe to play around with swapping things?

www.eurotubes.com has information about about it. You need a multimeter.

For safety.
I keep my amp on and then pull the plug from the wall socket. I've heard that will drain the amp completely.
You should also spray some electric spray in the socket and jack the tube in and out a couple times.

Also does anyone have something I can use in the meantime where I can use my guitar and podxt live through my pc speakers via USB... I used to have something called "podxtmonitor" before.

If you aren't too sure, better take it to a guitar tech man.

I didn't understand the question about the POD, could you rephrase please?

Cool! biggrin.gif Still, don't forget to bias it.

Unless it's "self biasing".
