I've got some questions that I can't find answers to, so I'll do a self-intro, then ask them.

I'm older, closing fast on the half century. I took a stab at guitar in my teens, but never got much past a few bar chord punk tunes, and gave it up decades ago. With adult life pretty much in order now, and the last kid just out of diapers, I've finally got some time to take up a hobby unbecoming to my dignity. I've already got a younger wife, and I don't much care for cars, so I started thinking about music again. I got an acoustic guitar a few years ago, and practiced nearly an hour a month for a couple of years. (Job and kids...if you've been there, you understand.) Then just about a year ago things finally came together and I started practicing about 10 hours a week and making some progress.

I'm basically interested in being able to make music, with guitar as the vehicle. I like something out of just about every genre of music. I've been working by myself through some rock and bluegrass tabs, trying to build up technique and understanding. I was trying to figure out how to do staccato notes on open strings when I found this site, and signed up 15 minutes later.

When I have listening time, I mostly listen to jazz and classical, though I'm happy to play anything that I can make sound halfway decent. I'd love to be able to play some Zappa tunes.

Questions:
Where can I ask about home recording technical issues related to doing a REC submission?
Why would I want to post a practice agenda?
Other than just working my way through lessons, by increasing grade, is there any syllabus I should pay attention to?

Thanks for all the great stuff here! Now I'm going to practice.

Welcome to GMC!

As for recording issues, I guess you can post all your questions in Recording
or Gear boards, open new topic and fire up.
And read/learn theory along as you work on lessons,
we have an awesome theory board with many great lessons
led by Andrew Cockburn, you can ask your questions about theory there
and we have thousands of members ready to help you. smile.gif

Hi and welcome!

Just post any questions you have on recording in the forums, someone, somewhere will be able to help, I have a basic set up that I use for REC which works fine. As for practice agendas, they can be a useful tool for a beginners who dont want to get too deluged with the range of lessons here at GMC, an agenda can help you focus on the things you really want to learn rather than just clicking through all the lessons. It helps to have defined and acheivable goals so your interest is kept up and you dont lose the will to live!

Hello and welcome to GMC!

You can post questions about techniqal difficulties in the GEAR or RECORDING forums, I think they are mostly appropriate for that.I'm sure you will get your answers really fast! smile.gif
Its very good to have a practice plan/agenda. To post a practice agenda you need to first make one (that is one goal of that feature). Also, its very good to share, other members can benefit from your practice plan. There is no general syllabus, but you can check out lessons series as they are small practice plans : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lesson-series.htm .If you want a practice plan and don't have one, you can try opening a topic and starting to make one with the fellow members and instructors.

Have fun with playing!

See you round the site! smile.gif

Cheers

Welcome aboard man! Have fun on GMC! biggrin.gif

Q&A:

Q:Where can I ask about home recording technical issues related to doing a REC submission?
A: In the gear board of the forum

Q: Why would I want to post a practice agenda?
A: So it becomes available for others to check it out and possibly get some ideas from your practice sessions. The joy of sharing.

Q: Other than just working my way through lessons, by increasing grade, is there any syllabus I should pay attention to?
A: No, it is completely up to you what you want to practice, but if you want any kind of directions or advices we will be happy to provide. Just post it on forum board that you find most convenient.
