Went shopping today and struck some big luck! Nothing big and fancy but plenty of fun smile.gif

Blackstar wasn't selling the 1x10 cabinets without also selling a head but since of August they will start that so I managed to get one today. Means I will ditch my 4x12 and now have a neat little half stack.

Biggest of luck was the little amp I was craving for... last week when I talked to them they said it was difficult for them to find the amp since it was popular and the few they got before were sold the same day. Now he got one in today and I was right in time to get it - The Vox AC4TV. (sold out almost everywhere)

Finally I bought a set of EMG 81/85 plus a Afterburner booster.

Last week I got a EBS Dynaverb... still counts as new gear wink.gif

Now... if only the kids could to to bed laugh.gif

A tip, get a good reverb to go with it and it becomes like a completely new amp.

I've only had it for a short while but so far my opinion is that it's excellent. So far I've only ran in on clean and distorted sounds on low volume, got it in the loop, and it sound very alive and colorful. Smooth!

The battery goes in the bottom compartment which is opened with screws, which isn't the best solution but no big deal either if you remember to keep a screwdriver at hand.

Still need to crank the amp to get it tested for real. Gor Room, Plate and Hall in three different variations of each.

So far I've only tried the Vox and the reverb. I'll make a little comparance with the Blackstar HT-5, no soundclips just oral.

The Vox, soooo nice - saturation heaven. These amps are what they are, small practice amps, but I've got to say that pusing the Vox into saturation (which isn't hard at all) gives a strong experience of a vintage sound like Beatles and early the Who f.ex must have had in their ears on stage. Niiiiiiice.
Bluse and vintage rock, but that's the limit. Which is just perfect! When I'm playing I'm just watching the brown diamond shaped cloth thinking... wow.

Nothing for the metal or hard rock, unless you count the early 70's to that genre... which I do. It's classic!!
Cleans up very nicely with the colume knob on the guitar. And there's a big difference between 4W and 1/4 watt. Huge!

Compared to the HT-5. It's like day and night. The HT-5 is more of a vintage allt the way to a modern pony, though vintage will never be Vox AC5TV-vintage. I'm glad to have both because they are very different.
And while the Blackstar 5 watter will make your ears explode Vox is at what's more likely a 4 watt level. 0,25w is the one I like the most, spare my ears, though the sound picture isn't as wide and full as with 4 watts.

Between the HT5 and the Vox, I don't know. They are different, very different. I'm glad to have both. The HT5 with all it's options with headphones, texture etc. and the Vox for it's simplicity - you got volume and tone and the rest is up to you.

A good reverb effect is a must imo, for both amps.

Nice Micke, I'm not so keen on the lack of versatility of the AC4, but I guess it's my only chance to play a tube amp at acceptable apartment levels, so I have to go with it. I wonder if it could be pushed a bit further with an OD/dist stomp though. Have you tried?

The lack of versatility is a sweet thing though, volume, tone and you. wink.gif
There's a lot you can do with the volumeknob of the guitar and I find humbucker vs single coil will give ver different sound. On my Charvel the Breed humbuckers (with a high output) drives it into crazy saturation while my mid single coil pu is a lot cleaner even cranked. So I'm guessing an OD would make result here!
Still got a lot of options to test with EQ, OD, dist pedals. The only one I'm used so far is a reverb.

Today I've tried my OD pedal. I'm using a Digitech Bad Monkey, a "mild" OD pedal but with the AC4 it's a big bad wolf!!

Got two knobs besides the EQ on it, Level - which increase or decrease the signal strength; and Gain which, surprisingly, adds gain wink.gif
While the level will increase the signal I don't know if that's what I'm after. I kept the amp cranked at 0,25W and adding more saturation isn't really neccessary, though it shaped the vintage fuzzy sound into something more modern. Nice.
With the level at noon, not adding much signal and the gain at 3 o'clock I'm starting to enter Marshall territory.
Since I never owned a Vox before I can't tell wether it's really Vox gain terriroty but a Marshall JCM800 I can relate to.

Full Gain on the Bad Monkey sounds close to full Gain and full volume on the 50W JCM800 I used to have. Brutal! Wonderful!

This is great! No pedal and the Vox will sound vintage, the Bad Monkey brings me hard rock 80's sound. I was a bit surprised myself the Bad Monkey could be such a bad boy laugh.gif Never used it on a cranked amp before that's why.
