I have trouble producing much sound with pull-offs. When I raise my fingers to allow the string to play a lower note that is already fretted, it tends to mute that lower note. How do I fix this?

Hammer-on are better but not great.

Are there some tricks regarding the amp gain or other settings that will help make these pull-off and hammer-on notes more distinct? I end up picking most notes just to make much of a sound.

This should clear up any questions in regards to what he said about pulloffs
