Hi. I'm Bill. I'm new here. But I've been snooping around for the past few days. This is a very cool environment.

I've been playing guitar for about 11 years (I'm 28). I've been taking it seriously since January of this year (as a resolution) and it took off like a flywheel. I suddenly enjoy practicing. As a starter, I decided to focus on learning theory and developing alternate picking speed. Still on those primarily now.

I've been in two bands as a rhythm guitarist. Never got into lead or soloing, as much as I wanted to. I never had the patience to "practice" and whenever I picked up the guitar I'd just make up riffs.

I'm making progress, especially thanks to Kris Dahl's "Shred Masterclass" at Ultimate-Guitar. That brought me here and when I saw the amazing amount of high-quality learning material I had to subscribe. That was before I even knew about collabs and the awesome community here. I'm hooked. You'll see a lot of me now, I bet.

My main heroes right now are:

Mattias Eklundh
Ron Jarzombek
Guthrie Govan
Chuck Schuldiner
Marty Friedman
Paul Gilbert

My current goal is to put together a progressive metal project named "The Kepler Conjecture." Won't happen till I hone some skills and get some chops. But I'm playing around with what it will sound like - I consider it a collection of "sketches" to help establish an ultimate feel for what the project is. I hope to have it released by January 2011. Sooner if I can. You can hear low quality examples at www.myspace.com/thekeplerconjecture if you're interested.

For gear: Few Ibanez guitars, a Schecter baritone tuned to C standard, a few other guitars, a Crate combo amp, a bunch of Line6 products, a VS-700, and SONAR.

Finally, I'd like to thank everyone here for providing these resources. The instructors for the content, and everyone else for the ambiance.

Stay awesome,

Bill
