Hi Joe

I want to improvice over this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/extended-chords-ballad/

I know the key is F major.

So I can use D minor scale or F maj scale.

But for a few fast legato kinda 3 notes per string runs what scales/mode can i use for this lesson?

Maybe a scale diagram picture to make it visible.

Thx in advance.

In order to find out which other scales you can use over certain sections in the backing you have to actually determine which notes are in the chords and find a scale that corresponds with those notes (I am just forgetting now on any chord harmony relationships).

In this case all the Fmaj variants make you are able to use also C major scale notes (F lydian mode). Over the Gm7 and Bb sections you could use the F major scale notes (G dorian mode) to improvise.

But basically F major fits literally all chords best if you ask me smile.gif

Hopefully it helps a bit.

well you can play over it horizontally with the F major scale, or vertically highlighting the chord changes.

1. F major scale try to not sustain the 4th degree of the scale Bb which is an avoid note, use it as a passing tone

2. highlighting the changes all the diatonic modes works and arpeggio also

for example Fmajor F Ionian - Gm7 G Dorian - Am7 Phrygian and so on all the major modes

My suggestion is use the F major scale paying attention to the 4th degree check this lesson in particular https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/major-soloing-no-4th/

Keep Rocking,

Joe
