Hi there folks!

I am new to GMC (hence the post in "Introduce Yourself" good album btw)
Ok, I have not touched the guitar for about 7 years!!! I have just started getting back into it again and this site has really given me the extra push to improve.
Before I stopped guitar I used to play death metal on my trusty Ibanez RG550. I have dusted the old girl off and had my JCM800 re-valved and I am ready to get back into it.

My favourite guitarist still has to be Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) and "The sound of perserverance" by Death my favourite album. There are many other genres I listen to as well, but that one has everything for me.

Well, thanks to Kris and everyone who contribute to this site and I hope I too will be able to bring something to the party!

Now its time to move from keyboard to fretboard!

bye for now.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have had a few guitars in the past, Charvel and BC Rich mostly, but they came and went. With getting back into playing, I went to a couple of guitar shops and tried a few different things out, even a £2200 PRS custom 24 and discovered I prefer my RG550. Sorry to hear that your friend didn't sell you his. What is your current axe?

i'm playing an ibanez sa160... i paid $75 for it and it being only a year old i didn't feel was a bad deal considering it retails for close to $500. the only bad thing with it is that the back is marked up from the guy's belt buckle but it's only a few scratches. he threw in a v8 humbucker which was a must because the one that was in it was so muddy. not nice at all. i played one riff on it and decided to rewire the entire thing and put in the v8 that night. instead of cleaning the pots i just put in new ones and upgraded the gauge of wiring. used better solder connections. the guitar sounds so much better now and considering i don't really use the single coils i'm not really missing out on much. i'm probably gonna replace those with some new ones down the road. all together the thing cost me about 85 bucks and a couple hours of my own labor.

one of my other electrics that i primarily use is a fender telecaster that i use mostly for rhythm parts....

there's no doubt i would like to get a new axe but this one does just fine for me (although the rg550 would have been nice), and like kris says... it's not the gear you're playing on it's how you play it... (not an exact quote but close enough biggrin.gif )

I swapped out the bridge pick-up on my 550 for a DiMarzio PAF Pro that was going cheap many years ago and it makes a good noise. It sure sounds like you have put a good deal of effort into getting your axe just the way you want it. Nice work. biggrin.gif I agree you don't need to have the best gear to play and sound amazing, however I do think you need to feel comfortable with what you have. By this I mean that you are able to forget about the guitar itself when playing and just enjoy.
I am amazed at how good the instructional videos are on this site and on freelicks.net. The practice hard and you can achieve message has pushed me on to learning some new tricks, solos I though I would never play at the correct speed and has inspired me to learn some more theory. I just need to keep playing.
