I'm thinking about getting a Michael Kelly Patriot guitar, have never played one, have only read reviews on them.
Anyone at GMC have any input on these guitars?

I haven't played a Patriot but I have played a Hex Deluxe and was suitably impressed with it. Great build quality and a great Guitar for the money!

Rusty,

The local guitar shop sells them. They have some pretty nice features on a low to medium priced electric guitars. Their fit and finish seems on par with the mid level Schecters that are hanging next to them at the store. They Patriot that I looked at (but didn't play) had a set neck and EMG 81/85 pups. The price was in the 5-700 range. They don't seem to get a lot of interest at the store, but they look like a fair amount of bang for the buck.

I'm pretty sure that I provided no help to you, but they are sold about 100 feet from my office. I can go take a closer look to get a feel for them if you like, but I wouldn't want to suggest that I endorse them in any way. I've just seen them up close.

Cheer!

Tom

Thanks for the reply, the fact that you have played a Kelly and was pleased with it does help in making a decision.
Thanks Jones

Hey Tom, thanks for the reply.
If you wouldnt mind getting your hands on one and giving it a test drive it would be much appreciated. I play a Schecter C-1 Classic and really like it alot, thinking about a Paul-ish type guitar next but I dont wanna put out the cash for the real McCoy.
Thanks

I just looked at a Valor and a Hex. The Hex is a clone of everything else that looks like that. Double HB's coil tapped with FR and a bolt on neck. The Valor, however, was something really special. The looks, fit and finish on this guitar are really top notch. There is an attention to detail that can't be ignored, they are quite nice. The sound is warm and is along the same lines as my Parker PM20 Pro. They have a string through body and a set neck and is a guitar that I would look at seriously if I didn't already have the Parker. So, for what I can tell, their lower lines are like everyone else and their upper lines are too...the more you spend. They look like worthy guitars, indeed.

Edit: Typo

The local store did have an acoustic bass, but I never looked at it. It's not around anymore. If they get another one, I'll take a peek. I'm in there a lot. smile.gif

I have a Patriot and must say that it is a great buy. The axe is definetly worth its price. Good built quality and good parts.
The bridge pup is a little muddy though. Since I don't play with too much distortion I don't care but if you want a real butt kicking metal sound I guess you should change the pickup

Never seen one in any local stores, so havent had the chance to test one yet.
But comparing the specs with the price, they look like a good deal.

Reviews on harmony-central.com are favourable too.
