Here's my first ever audio file for guitar ! smile.gif I realise I put way too much distortion, and if I were to keep the distortion so high, I should make the noisegate filter away more noise... So I guess I'll record another take quite soon, but take a listen ! smile.gif I was quite nervous, so the vibrato is poor ! biggrin.gif

I'd like to add that when I first rendered the Reaper file, it turned out that all the quality was set to maximum, so I got a 30-second long mp3 file of 12.1 MB ! biggrin.gif

Any criticism welcome ! smile.gif

EDIT 1: I've now edited the sound a bit, and the volume on the playing-track, so you can see what the final result sounds like ! smile.gif By the way, the best file is biggest, and placed on the bottom... tongue.gif I see it's only got 1 download and the sucky file 9 ! tongue.gif

EDIT 2: I downloaded the lame encoder (it's actually called lame ! tongue.gif) and I now have an MP3 file which is much smaller and of same quality, I believe... It's the third download (3), but you can download all three files and see if you can tell the difference. smile.gif

EDIT 3: Just installed the necessary file for Reaper to encode MP3 directly (without having to use another programme), so I'm now more familiar with changing format and quality of the file when rendering. I have one last file to post, whose quality I hope surpasses that of the previous 3.

Nicely played, very well done for first recording!!!

Here's what you could improve tho,
first of all, sound of your guitar is too loud compared with BT,
you should mix that more smoothly.
And also use stereo track for BT and stereo output when rendering, not mono.
BT is stereo audio file with drum elements panned all around
and when you render it as mono you lose pretty much of it. smile.gif

Thank you for 10% compliment ! biggrin.gif Joking, yeah I'll fix the stuff ! biggrin.gif Please come back in 5 minutes ! smile.gif

How do I make the backing track stereo ? It seems like I can only select stereo when rendering, but not separately for the backing track before that... Help ! smile.gif

All you have to do is to select stereo output when rendering, that's all.
But this file you posted here has BT in mono, not stereo.
So maybe you converted it in mono when you had imported it in Reaper, could be. smile.gif

Much better now,
mix and stereo!
Quality of overall file could be better tho,
no need for maximum, try MP3 with
Mode- CBR - Joint Stereo, Constant Bitrate - 192,
quality - Normal.
That should work. smile.gif

Not a waste, no worries. wink.gif

It is mp3 but quality could be better, not sure what happened,
there are some constant pops, hard to hear but there are.
Try tweaking settings more when rendering (try higher)
and listen to result, you're getting there. smile.gif

Doh ! Yeah I used the LameXP thing and the quality got pulled from 512 to 160 kbps... I'm at it ! smile.gif

Muris, I can't get the bitrate higher than 160 and the file-size over 942 kb... :S

2nd take is the best here for me Alex!
As I mentioned in the chat, work on vibrato and muting (both left and right hand). Congratulations on your first ever audio recording man!

Thanks ! The takes are all the same takes, but it's just that I've modified them using Reaper for better quality ! I'm stuck now though, as I can't improve quality for the MP3 file ! sad.gif
