Well, it said on the receipt that it's American Standard. It might be a new model, 2008 or something, but I don't know. I bought it at a Guitar Center in Los Angeles... smile.gif

no, that's not a new model. all american standards have 22 frets and 2 point tremolos.
unfortunatelly, it seems to me that you've been ripped off sad.gif

QUOTE (jafomatic @ Jul 24 2009, 01:54 PM) *
I one way to determine is the price (new): around 1200 is the american standard strat, around 500 is the MIM (made in mexico) strat from what I saw when window shopping these.

well, i can sell you my mexican strat for 1200 and tell you that's an american standard.
that's the point in ripping someone off wink.gif
selling for the higher price...

Except that he mentioned that he paid the lower of those two prices, not the higher.

i just did some research and, unfortunately, i'm 100% sure that your guitar is a mexican standard.

with 21 frets and 6 point vintage tremolo, that COULD BE a vintage american strat BUT it has the same logo and headstock as new mexican standards, same truss rod hole, and last but not least, standard mexican strat tuners, because all vintage series have vintage tuners. it's a new mexican, without any doubt!

but don't despare now. i've tried some standard mexicans that blew some americans away! and my mexican, when unplugged, sounds better than almost any fender strat i've ever tried!

i don't know how much you paid for it, but if they ripped you off and if you still have a bill, i guess you can ask your money back...

What does that say on the headstock, "Original Custom Body"? Look on the back of the headstock, where does it say it's made?

Anyway, as pointed out this is not an American Standard. They go for ~900 at GC, ~1200 for American Deluxe.

This is either a vintage reissue, a signature model, or something else. If you bought it at Guitar Center you should be able to get a correction on the price IF it's wrong, but if you check your receipt, the serial number is on it, and when you leave the store they check that against the one on the guitar itself, NOT the hang tag, which is often wrong, I know mine was.

Guitar Center does not rip people off, at least not by switching guitars. You got a very nice guitar, so the only thing at issue here is exactly which model is it. The serial number will be definitive.

It says "Original Contour Body", and on the back it says it's Mexican... It's name is hence "Burrito" ! biggrin.gif

Ok, mystery solved. A very nice guitar indeed. Is that going to be your main guitar from now on? (Edit: Of course it is, I wasn't thinking.)

FWIW, I paid good money for a set of vintage string saddles like yours has to put on my newer style American. I don't know why they keep messing with a good thing. cool.gif

Very nice guitar, about the model I found weird that serial isn´t on the head. By the number of string post could be american as they have one instead of two string post.
