Just a couple of quick beginner questions, im pretty much learning guitar from the ground up stopped and started again ive seen Ivan Milenkovic beginner program that im going to follow. My rhythm/strumming isnt too bad i can change chords fluently with varyin strum patterns as well as barre chords etc however i have hardly done any lead work.

Im just wondering whats the best way to go about this should i just breakup each technique i need to work on and practice that for x amount of time? Also what should i concentrate on as a beginner i know i need to work on hammer ons and pull offs and alternate picking is it worth trying very basic sweep picking as well?

I am not sure where to start but I would pick out a couple of the beginner lessons with short solos in them. I would continue with the strumming but start incorporating some different timing (lessons are good for finding some different patterns - also note that you can try bits and pieces of harder lessons for some of these skills). Also try a few scales - not too many and try not to overdo them - scales are nice to learn the guitar but also use them to develop your alternate picking (and legato). Don't worry about sweeping yet until you are pretty comfortable with alternate picking (although it is really up to you to choose what you think you can do or not at this point). Most important is not to get too caught up in wrote learning skills - have fun with the stuff you are learning and spend a bit of time improvising incorporating some of the things you have learned.

Be patient and have fun!

I'm probably not the best person to share
practice regime tips since I never had any
but the way you said seems just fine imo,
breaking every technique and practicing it x amount of time,
that how I would do it anyhow.
Remember tho, practice things that you like
and always enjoy your practicing, that's the key.
Practicing something that you really don't like doesn't result good.
So the more things you like the better, both genre and technique wise. smile.gif
