As I found this thread extremely interesting, Im going to pass some good tips on how to handle german girls. (btw. Im pretty good at girls myself, my empty bed, my empty bank account and two children proves that)

First of all:
NEVER mention the war! (fans of Fawlty Towers knows what I mean)

Secondly, all girls love when You sing for them, so I provided a well-known German song with the text below.
Learning it should'nt be difficult, since nothing happened in German music since J.S Bach. Happy hunting!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Klingelingeling Klingelingeling
hier kommt der Eiermann
Klingelingeling

unser Ei kommt garantiert vom frohen Federvieh

Sure I know what "Eier" is, its eggs... but also I think its a word for someone who likes the same gender, but maybe I'm wrong.... I was playing a lot on the boats to Germany in the 80's, and we always gets requests on this song, which is just as stupid as the "Bird Song".. But there are some others as well ... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

This threads kind of funny smile.gif

Your sentence would translate to something like:

Was hälst du davon?"

Haha @ Staffy, that's the truth!

To tell you some history (maybe you dont know it), the German lost the worldwar in the early 1900's.
Somehow they still cant stand it that they lost so NEVER tell anything about the war to a German if you dont know him/her quite well! smile.gif

Well, i dont want to start a discussion about germany and their historical heritage but its not because they lost the war. Its because what happened around the war here in germany and its some sort of herited debt. Most germans have a problem with this and still think we will have the guilt on that forever. Even in school the way it is discussed always implies that we are branded with this forever. So it IS a delicate theme, but it has nothing todo with the defeat itself. (Most germans would think of the defeat as something positive because it ended the era of that regime)

O yes, sorry man my mistake, but here in Belgium they always say that it's because we """"defeated"""" them.

Just some small addition to twists reply. The "heritage" we're talking about is not the 1st world war (1914-1918) which I think of when saying early 1900's, it's the "heritage" of the 2nd world war (1939-1945)
To be honest, I don't think there is a problem to talk about war with Germans. At least with young ones, who are open-minded to that topic.
But whatever, who wants to talk about war with a girl ? wink.gif
