Hi Alexiaden93

Finally we have it all set and ready to go smile.gif I hope we will both have some good experience with this. The first thing I would like to know is what you would like to learn and we can take it from there. Please write down your current playing abilities, post some recordings or a video (if you have) and specify which area you would like to focus on. That can be anything from theory, technique, some of my lessons - just whatever you want. I am looking forward to this and I hope that you will learn many useful things throughout this program.

All the best
Emir

Hello Emir !

I must admit I have lost some of my enthusiasm because of school starting, but I will try to be more active and work more on guitar ! smile.gif

I would like to learn and improve a lot of techniques. Vibrato, bending, legato, sweep picking, alternate picking, economy picking is what I am the most concerned about at the moment, but I am a noob, so I could use some work on all the aspects of my playing.

I'm not sure exactly how this MTP thing is going to function, but I think giving me GMC lessons as some kind of homework that I can post here or on the REC board would be a good way to improve certain techniques covered in the lessons. If that doesn't work for you, I am happy with whatever you feel suits my playing ! smile.gif I have experienced only positive things when it comes to your ability to teach, to put it that way... biggrin.gif

So, here is a link to my YouTube channel, where you will find some videos of my playing. I find that MSN video call with the guitar connected to the soundcard through my Line 6 POD Studio GX also works very well, but this can be very time consuming for you, so I fully understand if this suggestion is rejected. smile.gif

https://www.youtube.com/Alexiaden93

I am very sorry about not being able to finish your collaboration. I have been too obsessed with integrating into the new school, and I stopped spending time on GMC. I can post a video of my take some time in the close future, as part of my assessment for composing/technique. Again, I do not doubt you will be a perfect instructor, and I will try to work as hard as I can ! smile.gif

Ok Alex I understand that you're busy with your school. If you want you can pick any of my lessons and we can work on it together. When we finish you can post it for the REC. I have just done some cool tapping stuff for some other members, would you like to try that?

There are some great videos on your youtube channel.

Thank you Emir ! I sure wouldn't mind tapping, although I consider that technique almost a leisure, seeing as I have such poor fundamental technique. To be honest I would prefer working on legato or vibrato, but tapping is thumbs up ! smile.gif You're the boss ! smile.gif

EDIT : I took a look at your Yngwie Malmsteen licks tabs, and they are awesome ! I would like to learn those licks and maybe start learning some more about neoclassical theory/technique. smile.gif

EDIT: You also asked me to choose one of your lessons. I am captivated by your neoclassical/rock soloing, so I have 4 lessons I would like to work on.

Great list smile.gif Let's start with Neoclassical Solo for Beginners. I am happy to do a video explaining each part to help you get started if you like. You can also go for Yngwie licks if you want. That will be a serious job because you told me that you're busy with other things but if you want to try that tapping as well feel free to go for it. Check THIS THREAD for video, backing tracks and GP file and try it smile.gif

Thanks Emir ! I have a good feeling about this ! biggrin.gif I will now begin working on the solo, and see how many of the licks I can manage. I'll start the tapping after I'm done with the first lesson, if that's OK... smile.gif

Hello Emir !

I have worked on your lesson and I will record a take in the weekend, I PROMISE !

I realise I am the least active person in your MTP group, but that doesn't mean I don't practise ! smile.gif In a matter of fact, I've got some people to play with me in a band, and I've composed our debut single by myself. It lasts for around 3 minutes, and I was wondering if you could assess my composing skills by taking a listen and maybe reading the tabs in greater details ?

I admit the bass line isn't always orthodox, but I try to keep it a bit abstract and unusual to make it more interesting.

Anyway, here it is ! smile.gif

This song sounds great man. I really like it. Is this supposed to be an instrumental? Bass line can be a bit improved but not much, it should play straight most of the time. I would just add some more complex and faster licks in a couple of places and the rest is great. Also try not to repeat rock licks 4-5 times in a row. Do 2 or 3 then finish the phrase with something else. Really good job, well done.

Thank you Emir ! I will polish the song, and improve the bass line. I thought this would be the finished product, but I see some weaknesses.

And yes, it is an instrumental. I prefer emphasizing the guitars rather than putting in vocals. At least for now, but I might compose a song with vocals that my band can play.

Great videos man. I have already replied on PM about the first one. Here is the copy

Thanks for having a go on this one. REC program is disabled until they come up with the new rating system so I can't rate it there. From what I've seen I can tell that you did a great job. There were some timing issues but not that serious. Also I played the whole thing with the bridge pickup but that's personal preference. Your vibrato is good as well smile.gif I think you would get 4.7 overall for this one. Fix the timing and it will be perfect. Well done

About other videos I can say I like them all. Very nice and confident playing. One thing I noticed is that your left hand sometimes looks weak. Might be just my impression but when you play rock licks you have to hold that neck like a MAN smile.gif Like a ton of steel and you need to take the beast out of that guitar. Don't be affraid to get angry when you have something to show. That all affects overall impression. Don't do it all the time if it's not necessary but express the feelings s much as possible. Good work anyway smile.gif

Have you been working on anything else that we talked about?

Thanks Emir ! smile.gif I will try to build more strength in my left-hand. The Stratocaster has more demanding fretboard configuration than say a shred guitar like Ibanez or ESP. I shouldn't blame the instrument, but maybe that's why I'm feeling weak, who knows. EITHER WAY, I will get stronger smile.gif

I'm not sure I've practised anything else from our list, except for a bit of Yngwie licks. I have a bunch of lessons that I can post REC takes for though, in the mean time ? At least you will have some more impressions of my playing.

You are a great mentor, and I hope I'm not disappointing you... biggrin.gif

I'm pretty sure I used the bridge pickup too, but my Mexican stock pickups have very low and bad output, which is why I'm considering the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails SHR-1 both for bridge and neck... smile.gif

I couldn't really see on the video but it sounded like that. I said it's a personal preference so don't worry about it. When I want to make the sound a bit more agressive I play on bridge pickup. Usually when I go for arpeggios I switch to the neck position.

Yes Sir ! I'm composing the second song for my band at the moment, but seeing as you're leaving, I'll just upload the file as it is now. I'm planning for the song to be pretty long, so don't be shocked when it stops... biggrin.gif

Hope you like it ! The bass player asked for a solo, and since he's Venezuelan I put in a little Latin beat towards the end... smile.gif

The file name is "X", but it's just because I haven't named the song yet... smile.gif
