Good luck Steve!

I don't smoke but my parents used to for long time. They stopped couple of years ago because they realized how bad effect they have on their health. Very glad you decided to quit smoking, stay strong and try to drink water and exercise whenever you can. smile.gif

Do it bro..
You not only do not want your kids to start.. you want to be there for them.

We all think that bad stuff happens to others but the negative effects of smoking can strike anyone. I started in my early teens and then quit when I turned 20. My sister who is two years older kept on smoking..at 43 she was diagnosed with cancer of the throat.. from smoking. She has had surgery, radiation and chemo to treat the cancer. It has been three years and she is doing well, thank god.

My niece was in second grade at the time my sis was diagnosed. I can tell you first hand that it's a very scary position to be in...realizing there is a decent chance you will be leaving your kid alone over some smokes.

I posted this not to try and scare or condem those that smoke..hell I did it for quite a few years. Just want to get the message out that bad things really do happen to good people, and that it's incredibly sad when the event is preventable.

Wow, I can't thank you guys enough for the stories and inspiration. smile.gif The times I have tried to quit in the past, I was thinking like Berglmir, I thought I was giving up a pleasure. blink.gif

It's different now and I really want to quit for my family and myself. I shall overcome! cool.gif

I don't understand cigarettes. I am a social smoker on occasion, but I've never bought a pack and I don't even really get anything out of it, except for the feeling of blowing out the smoke, which reminds me of other activities. I guess I'm asking, those of you who do or have smoked, what benefit do you get from it? I've heard it calms people down, maybe so, but I don't feel it (I'm a very calm, laid back person by nature anyway). Then again, I don't feel extra energy drinking caffeine either, maybe I'm a freak!

There are no benefits from it man, just a habit tricking your brain into thinking there is.

Just like anything else that we get addicted to, we will find an excuse to keep doing it no matter the cost to our health.

Until one really wants to quit, it's seems impossible.

Same to me. I am a social smoker as well. It's good to just chill with friends and smoking cigs and drinking. It's a perfect summer scenery (I am of legal age to do both btw). For a few years, I have been smoking socially, and never once had a craving of it other than something to do at parties. Guess I'm just immune to it, or maybe I can pretty much control what I want to do, or don't want to do.

I need to do this urgently, I quit once for a year, then got back. It's bad for the health definitely, I would never recommend anyone to start or continue smoking, it's hard to quit.

Hard habit to quit... no positive way of looking at it, drain on money, health ect. I'm young and I smoked for about 14 months only (tried to quit and had 2-3 relapses) so I feel your struggle! Good luck!

laugh.gif laugh.gif As I sit here and look at this "Silver Bullet", #9 I might add, they do make you want one but I've been substituting with sunflower seeds, so far, so good! As I said, I am very determined this time!

That's great Steve! I quite for over a year and sunflower seeds helped me also. The problem was the beer. It always makes me want to fire one up tongue.gif laugh.gif

Good luck Steve!!
I have tried and failed a couple of times and I've been on them over 30 years now!!!
Having said that, the weird thing is, I don't smoke in the House and sometimes go days without one and from 3 packs a day I'm now smoking less than a pack a day!
