no matter what we like better, those guitar are very different in purpose and style, one is moer a beginner metal shred type of thing with humbucer the other is a strat knock off which is mostly for rock and such, you need to tell us your style and what you want out of a guitar before we can comment
p.s since i see your new to gmc, people here have nothing they love more than helping people, so the "please leave a comment" is not needed in my opinion

Both guitars can be good, depending what you are looking for. As vampire said, these guitars are very different, first one having basswood body, second one having an alder body. Difference is in the tone as well, since Ibanez has 2 humbucker pickups that are more suitable for heavier hi-gain type of music, but it also has a single middle pickup which is good cause it gives flexibility int one. The Squier however is a guitar with single coil pickups that are not so great for hi gain stuff, but they do have decent clean sounds and twangy bell-like character.

I suggest you go into the store and try them both. Try on clean and distortion, play the same stuff. Focus on the feel of the neck and the sound. Neither is best for everybody, only you can decide which one is best for you.

Depends on what style of music you play... Personally I would take the Ibanez because I dont like fender very much. but that is just my style. you play them both and decide which one you like better. smile.gif

If I was looking for my first guitar all over (not sure if it is your first), I'd get the Squier strat and dump one of these in, depending on which sound you're after.

Ps. In that price range, quality might not be consistent. Play a few different ones of each model. You might find a real gem that sounds and feels better than others of the exact same type.

I would suggest buying a used 400-450$ guitar for the same price as one of those guitars at your local guitar shop. I got my 450$ ibanez for 160$.

I'm with jmguitar64. Don't get either, I used to own a Squier Affinity but it was impossible to intonate, beats me why but I tried everything. My low end Ibanez (RG320) has a tremolo with worn studs and knife edges on the tremolo, that pretty much sucks for quality concidering I hardly used the trem. I can only imagine the GRG170 is made out of even cheaper goods.

A good used guitar would suit you better. smile.gif

Check Craigslist, the LA area is filled with thousands of guitar adds. You can get a far better guitar for the money if you buy used, just make sure that the guitar you will buy is in good condition. Ask if you can come over and test it out before you buy!

Zakk and MickeM are right. Getting a good used MIM Strat or some better used Ibanez model can prove to be a lot better option for the money.

I'm with the rest here.. a good used guitar is better than the ones you mentioned.

It's better to get a good used one than be stuck with a low quality guitar you cant wait to get rid of.

A good used guitar is always an option. And a general advice about buying a guitar: make sure you can play the possible candidates, like that YOU will see what you like best, after all it is your money, so you should be happy with your new toy wink.gif
