I decided to create a new thread for this,
and post some clips of the different tones I can squeeze out of my new amp I have never mic'ed up amps before, so this is my first time trying to unveil the secrets of amp mic'ing I use 1 or 2 Shure Beta57a microphones for this, recording mono or stereo, depending on what I need. The Shure Beta57a microphone is a tad more expensive than the regular Shure SM57 mic (which is almost the industry standard for micing guitar cabs). I like this one better. It has more top end sparkle, sounds clearer and more defined. This is my opinion of course, but you can read more about the differences HERE, and even check the soundclips to compare the two ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soundclip 1 (Clean with backing): Clean.mp3 ( 4.12MB ) Number of downloads: 228 Soundclip 2 (Clean without backing): Clean_guitars_only.mp3 ( 4.12MB ) Number of downloads: 217 Soundclip 3 (Heavy with backing): Heavy.mp3 ( 2.03MB ) Number of downloads: 208 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My setup for these recordings are as follows: Computer: Apple Macbook Pro Guitars: Nik Huber Redwood guitar Nik Huber Junior Korina guitar Amp: Reinhardt The 18 Distortion Pedal: R3FX Dual Resistafier Soundcard: Steinberg/Yamaha MR816 CSX Microphone(s): Shure Beta57a DAW: Steinberg Cubase 5 Studio Effects: Various (a bit of this and a bit of that) Usually just a Compressor and a Equalizer. I will update this thread with more soundclips as they're recorded. Hope you like what you hear, and that my limited experience with mic'ing doesn't shine through too much Any questions? Just ask! Any comments, good or bad, are welcome! This post has been edited by audiopaal: Oct 26 2009, 05:29 PM |

Great review Paal, tones are great to work with!
I would like to hear mono samples as well (without any mixing). That would give a dose of authenticity to the whole thing. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
