I was wondering if the pros here at GMC could help me refine my practice sessions! Currently i start my daily pracice routine with speed picking patterns taken from all the videos in the speed picking series;

Speedpicking lesson 2

triplets/sixteenth-note-triplets:47 bpm / 3 minutes (new 50 bpm / 2 minutes)

Speedpicking lesson 3 - vertical picking / 3 minutes

Picking run 1 (ascending):65 bpm (new 70 bpm 2 / mintues)

e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|----------------------------------------------13-15-16-15~---------------------|
g|----------------------------12-14-15-12-14-15----------------------------------|
d|----------12-13-15-12-13-15----------------------------------------------------|
a|-12-13-15----------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Descending practice pattern:65 bpm / 3 minutes (new 70 bpm 2 / mintues)

e|-----------------|
b|16-15-13---------|
g|---------15-14-12|
d|-----------------|
a|-----------------|
e|-----------------|

Picking run 2 (descending):65 bpm / 3 minutes (new 70 bpm 2 / mintues)

e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|-16-15-13----------------------------------------------------------------------|
g|----------15-14-12-15-14-12----------------------------------------------------|
d|----------------------------15-13-12-15-13-12----------------------------------|
a|----------------------------------------------15-13-12-13~---------------------|
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Picking run 3 (ascending + descending exercise):65 bpm / 3 minutes (new 70 bpm 2 / mintues)

e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|---------------------------13-15-16-18-16-15-----------------------------------|
g|---------12-14-15-12-14-15-------------------17-15-14-17-15-14-----------------|
d|12-13-15-------------------------------------------------------17-15-13--------|
a|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Picking run 4 (advanced ascending)45 bpm / 3 minutes (new 47 bpm)

e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
g|-------------------------------------------------12----------------12-14-15-14~|
d|----------12----------------12-13-15----12-13-15----15-13-12-13-15-------------|
a|-12-13-15----15-13-12-13-15----------------------------------------------------|
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Then typically I move onto practicing one of the 3 pentatnonics videos, and end up jamming around to the backing tracks exerciseing what i have learnt from those videos!! I really enjoy this part......but its getting a bit samey now, but i havent yet mastered the licks in pentatnonics video 3.

My question is, would you guys change my daily routine? am i do doing to many speed picking exercises? am i doing them enough or to little? should i be varying my routine some more? all advice much appreciated!! cool.gif
