I’m just writing to say that I am going to leave the GMC forum. I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I think it’s a great place to learn the guitar. My musical goals have changed though. Now I don’t especially want to be a great guitarist. I want to focus my time on composition.

I think the GMC forum is a great place for learning the guitar, and just to chat, but I find it a bit of a distraction, and a bit creativity smothering for learning about composition. I am going to keep my subscription running and still carry on my duties on my Wiki Portals, as I’m still going to learn new things on instruments to help me compose. I’m just not going to focus on technique on the guitar anymore, and I'm going to spend a lot longer on my keyboard.

This also means I’ll be quitting the MTP, and I’d like to say to Pedja, that I think his mentoring has been of a very high standard, and I hope another student can get his excellent tuition now.

Anyway, I’d like to thank Kris, Pedja, all the instructors, and everyone here who has helped me, for everything I’ve learnt while I’ve been here, and I wish everyone well with their future projects.

So long smile.gif

Matt

i wish you all the best, but i really do think the gmc chat for example can be jsut as good for composing and getting feedback, i dont know where else your going to find composers and guitarists to help you with opinions and techniques, im sure every instructor here can have a thing or 2 to teach you about composition, but than again to each his own

good luck and all the best, and even if you quit the forum, im sure it will help you to still post your composition from time to time

I agree with you partially, but I find the general atmosphere (I'm not talking about individuals) here, is to teach what has already been done and considered good. If I wanted to learn to compose like someone else or in a certain style then yes I would stay here, but I just want to compose what I think sounds good, and as well as being a distraction, I think the forum slightly discourages innovation, creativity and originality. The thing about finding other composers, I am planning on studying composition at University, but until then I'm going to read articles etc, but mainly I'm going to try and do my own thing, which no one else can give me constructive criticism on if you see what I mean. They can give their opinion but to me that is of little importance if I'm composing what I like, it's just a by-product that I'd mildly prefer to be favourable.

And as I've said above I will be uploading some stuff to my Youtube channel, and if I remember I'll post a link to some of it here.

I just want to thank you all for your kind words, and I'll try to post some stuff on the forum sometime.

I see what you mean, Matt.
Studying composition at University can be a good thing but also there, teachers will teach you what composers has done in the past.
Follow your way (and your ear)! smile.gif
