Hi guys out there. I need some help to find a good emulated (software synth) bass sound for heavy metal. I have most of the sound engines/modules available but don't really know what to use, since this is not really my kind of music. Any suggestions???

If you use Kontakt there is East West Quantum Leap's HardCore Bass XP. It is about the only library that I am aware of geared for the "heavy" sound.

If I remember correctly, Trilogy is catered more for more so-called popular styles so I would be surprised if you could tweak some heaviness out of it! smile.gif

A common technique in heavy metal is sub drop Staffy. For that you need a synth bass emulation like the 808 or a Moog tracking the bass guitar line and then do the sub drop to get the sub sonic.

You are right. I only realised after I had posted. A quick search on the net verified its non-availability. A shame since there isn't really an equivalent product out there.

Well, EWQL have a multi instrument package called Goliath which is an array of different instruments and selections from lots of their range, including some basses from the HardCore Bass set. They're pretty decent samples, I used it myself:

Seems to be a quite interesting product, haven't really seen this one before.... the manufactorers just keep spitting out products on samples... It's hard to keep up! tongue.gif

I know the feeling. I was aware of the product which Goliath was based on (i.e. Colossus) but not the update itself. What "mighty" descriptions are left? I suppose next comes ... TITAN!! biggrin.gif

have you tried using Trilogy, and sending it to some bass guitar amp sim?

I would also suggest to render clean bass sound from trilogy and similar and then send it to a bass amp modeler like Amplitube, Guitar Rig also Mark Bass has a cool VST - http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...t=5&vedi=93 . You should be able to get a cool bass sound that way.
