I think that some people have more skills than other and can learn faster than other, but, talent without hard work is nothing.

This is so right! It's important to stress that since people that feel talented may neglect the hard work part and then after they at first make huge progress - they hit the wall and stay there. If they don't have a habit of hard work and practice they're in trouble. I guess its like the story of the rabbit and the turtle. One that is persistent (hard work) will make it in the end! smile.gif

I once had a discussion with a friend of mine. It was a lot like this one, and he said : 'Iedereen heeft dezelfde beginsituatie, maar sommige mensen leren meer slechte gewoontes aan dan anderen. Alles wat je verkeerd aanleert, moet je later alsnog goed leren en dat kost tijd. Dit verschil wordt vaak bedoeld als iemand het over talent heeft.'

This means as much as :'Not everybody has the same starting point, for instance holding a pick can be done several ways. If you know nothing in the beginning, you will do things randomly. Because of this, you'll have a chance that you'll learn some bad habits that you'll have to break later on. Some people get more bad habits then others. The people with little or no bad habits are usually the ones considered 'talented'.

Very good point! and even some masters got stuck with some bad habits and made them cool.

An interesting example is Marty Friedman´s picking style, some people say, it is a bad habit and he doesn´t recommend it, but others say he intentionally modify it like that to clear the sound of the pick, do you guys know about it?

I played Guitar Hero before I started playing a real guitar, and I found the real thing to be a lot easier then the plastic one. The last set on Guitar Hero 3 on expert is impossible, yet I can play songs like 'One', 'Number of the Beast' and such on a real guitar.

I would put it this way - talent is important but practice is even more important!
It all comes down to what your goal is ? Talent can help you go long way and it really goes together with determination dedication and hard work.

I really wish the same can happen to me.

I find Guitar Hero super easy (even managed to FC Number Of The Beast) and guitar super difficult smile.gif

Wish the opposite would happen.

This is an interesting discussion.

My view is that we can all reach a certain level of technical ability. Some of us will take longer than others to get there but in the end with hard work and dedication we can all do it.

However there are some guitarists whilst being no better than the rest of is with regard to technical ability are just better than the rest of us at suddenly producing that killer lick or melody, from out of mid air, or they develop an original sound or technique that is instantly recognisable as their own. Sure experience can help with this but it just seems to come naturally to some. These are the guitarists I would call great, or musical or talented.

Sadly I can see how I can develop technical ability but I don,t feel I would ever fit into the second no matter how hard I practice.

By the way I have never layed GH, perhaps I should give it a try I might be a natural tongue.gif

I realized that there is a thing called talent.

Talent equals Stevie Ray Vaughan.

(that doesn't mean he didnt practise)
