As I thoroughly enjoyed Daniel's post linking to a YouTube vid that took a humorous look at Paco de Lucia, I thought I would do a little searching for others in the same vein. As it turns out, the original poster is from Finland! As you can imagine, I was more than a little surprised by that and also too that he was invited to an interview on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show. It seems there are a bunch of these floating around in cyberspace that would be a real treat for you guys to check out! smile.gif

Check out the interview here!!

That said, I'm getting quite fed up with the whole "Slash is a guitar/shred GOD" thing. Mind you, each to his own, but there are far better guitarists out there. I think most of those people on Jimmy Kimmels show thinks Slash is both fast, melodic and a FANTASTIC guitarist. Most likely they will also think the same about Kirk Hammett. But in fact, guys like... ehhr... let's say Robbert Hanenberg would play circles around them:

No, no, I saw the point, and I found the Finnish guy to be the funniest of it. However, the fact that the audience go all: "WOAH" when Slash enters the scene and does a bit of pentatonics bothers me. In fact, I would say it takes a lot more skill to do what the Finnish guy does - and I would reckon that a lot of the audience sit there thinking: "He's not a very good guitarist...ehhr... what's going on?", but I'm not sure.

I can definately see the funny thing of it - but the fact that it was Slash was a bit pointless to me. He's good at was he does, but he is far from the best or one of the best guitarists out there, as Kimmel says. If they wanted some shred, they could have found better persons, but of course, they wouldn't be as wellknown as Slash.

I was just concerned you didn't see the funny side of it. For the record. I don't like Slash, GnR, Jimmy Kimmel and a lot of other things besides! smile.gif I agree with you about the Finnish guy. It would be a rather difficult thing to play "badly" on purpose ... with some kind of synchronisation with what is being conveyed by the music and performance in a video that is being viewed.

By the way, there are many things in this world that are over-rated. No need to get "too" caught up in it. You just give it all the more power.

Funny thing, but I don't agree, Slash is not overrated. It's like you say, he is good at what he does, but isn't that the most important thing? Joe Satriani is also good at what he does, and so is Steve Vai and people keep saying that they're the best, so what's the deal? Underneath every YT video there are reactions like : '(guitarists name) is GOD!' or '(guitarists name) sucks!' so I don't get what all the fuzz is about.

I don't agree with any of you! smile.gif This post was for humour's sake and not a discussion of relative godlike qualities in certain guitarists. That is just pointless.

hey, you gotta give Slash props for having the attitude of wearing that hat and having maintained his personality through decades,

not a lot of guitarists do that,

anyway, the shred vids are just so funny, I don't know anyone else thought about it before, biggrin.gif

What's the point in comparing two musicians, two artists? Music is an art, it is simply not possible to "measure" anything there, so I ask you - what is the point of saying - one is better over another? smile.gif

I seem to have started some big discussion here: my main point was that if Jimmy Kimmel (or the writer) had wanted a "shred god", as they seem to call Slash, they should have chosen someone else. To me at least, Slash is not a shred god. He might be good at guitar, but he's rarely really "shredding", right?
