Anyone noticed that we have almost no Explorer shape players on GMC (aside from Aleksander Sukovic) ?

I had to do something against it, sold my Ibanez RG 550 to a friend and got myself this baby:
(warning, crappy cell-phone pic from the rehearsal room)

It's a 2001 Gibson Gothic Explorer which I upgraded with Bareknuckle Miracle Man Humbuckers. I bought it used in a decent condition for a fair price. I will be gigging and rehearsing with this guitar anyways so no need for a perfect finish.

It's s really fat, warm and mighty sounding guitar (I use it in D Standard and Drop C most of the time).

You don't scare us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Wylde! You do scare me that you traded that nice RG550-whatever for the explorer but that's personal taste.

I think we have more than just Aleksander's explorer on GMC though... doesn't Synfection play one of these? I think I saw another one in REC somewhere too, over the summer perhaps.

Yes I have to admit, I played Sad But True.
The band joined in and we ended up with covering 3 other Metallica songs in a Row (Seek and Destroy, For whom the bell tolls and Creeping Death) tongue.gif

I used to have an ESP LTD Explorer (Lawsuit model) and a Edwards Explorer, both MIJ smile.gif
Awesome guitars, and I'm kinda sad that I sold them..

But I'll probably get an explorer again sometime, as I love the shape smile.gif

Congrats on yours though smile.gif
And I'd sell an Ibanez for an Explorer anyday, so good choice mate biggrin.gif

Explorer is the baddest vodka You can buy in Sweden.... laugh.gif Made by some old potatoes and some other ingredients not worth mentioning, but Gibsons version is A LOT better, even that I think the body is a little too big for my small appearance. But they are cool, remember that Paul Stanley used to play an Explorer in the seventies.... Anyway, congrats to this babe !!! smile.gif

Cool biggrin.gif I once had a guitar that looks just like this (it was a copy tho), I borrowed it from a friend to play it, had it for quite some time, about a year, cause he didn't need it. It's a cool shape and I eventually got used to it so much that later it bothered me the presence of the body wood surface above the strings

The guitar is a Metal beast with a singing lead sound.
It balances perfectly when standing and it sits on your lap like a Les Paul or strat does (only with a bigger body).

I sold the RG550 BECAUSE I also have the s7420^^

-Don't need two similiar shaped guitars with trems in standard tuning (7string has the low B )
-Both Ibanez were on par in terms of quality but I like the sound of mahagony better
-I can play anything that I could play on the RG on the S7 but I can't make the walls shake with some low-b 7String riffing on the Rg

I should recall mine from being out "on Loan" to a friends band!
Mine's a natural finish with original 70's Dimarzio's in it!

the ability to destroy an amp is insignificant next to the power of the force....

Zakk, you have chosen wisely!

The Gibson Explorer is the coolest guitar ever. I bought a cherry '76 reissue (from 2008) last year - picture attached. They are quite affordable these days (under 1100 euros). The sound is awesome, the mahogany wood is pure quality and Gibson's stocks 496R and 500T humbucking pups are brutal! No need for replacement at the moment (my Aria proII has emgs). The (set) neck is thin and very fast, the factory setup was perfect and it plays like a dream. This beast is made for hard rock & metal. To be honest, it lacks some finishing touches (the dot inlays suck a bit, I would also like a bound neck; and I think I will change the grover tuners). But apart from that it's pure attitude!
