Hello Pierre!

Welcome to your MTP program. I hope you will enjoy the assignments as much as I will enjoy working with you man.
For your 1st assignment this month, I have chosen to start some technique exercises with you. Since you mentioned couple of techniques as your weaker points, we will cover in 1st and 2nd assignment Alternate and Sweep picking. Please let me know if you find the assignment too difficult or too easy for that matter, we shall change the pace as we go along.

1st assignment is due on December 10th (a week from today).

Your 1st assignment is :

- Record each lick in 3 different tempos! Make sure tempos are at least 15-20 bpm difference.
- Try to show me your maximum tempo for these licks, I want you to push yourself here!
- Feel free to ask for more exercises if these are too easy for you!
- Upload your takes in this thread. Ideally I would like you to do videos, put them on Youtube and embed them here.

Time limit for 1st assignment would be a week from now. If you manage to do all the exercises before that, I will put more exercises here for you!

Feel free to ask me any questions, I am here to help always smile.gif

Hey Pedja, here's Excercise 1.... Also, Left some notes about afterwards at the bottom..

Excercise 1

70 bpm..

90 bpm

105 bpm

After this my fingers start getting REALLY stiff... you can already here "flat" notes in 105.. it gets worse after that -> lots of "misses" and dead notes...

Pierre.

Hey Pierre,

I can't watch any of the videos sad.gif
It gives me message stating that videos are private and I need to receive invitation from you in order to view them. Try to edit them and set them to public so that I can check them out or simply send me invitation for each of them on my youtube account (Pedjazz).

Thanks a lot!

Ok Pierre I could watch them now, thank you.
There is couple of things I noticed from these first videos from you :
- Your left hand needs to be more in sync with your right hand
- You are lifting your left hand fingers a lot from frets
- Exercise 1 has G on 15th fret as a last note.

Check out my video of this particular exercise, watch my left hand with right hand and notice the ending.

Alternate picking exercises

Great Pierre. Remember that you don't have to do fast tempos yet. Work on the exercises very slowly until you get coordination between both hands smooth and working. Once you have that you can start increasing the tempo by 5-10bpm and not more. You will notice the improvement I am sure. One extra suggestion - is it possible to hear metronome in your video somehow? That would be super useful as well.

Hmmm My pedal has a "drum setting", and I think I have a metronome setting build in there somewhere alone the line.. So I'll try include that in the recording too!

Hey Pedja, I tried another take on Slower tempo smile.gif...

I have a click in there now (unfortunately my footswitch click has the setting "11" which is 60 bpm, 19 which is 75 etc... so the tempos don't necessarily go up 5 to 10 tongue.gif...

sometimes it's a little more irregular..

Pierre

Very good work Pierre!
Only 1st tempo is out of time but 2nd and 3rd you did awesome. Listen to the click carefully when you play. Very slow and very fast tempos are very hard to do. I would say slower tempo is even harder then faster tempo as we have tendency to rush.
Get to 4th example now wink.gif

Yeah I felt the same, I had to redo the slower one a few times -- but the faster ones I found easier...

haha 4th Example incoming tonight!!

(I started a little on it last night... I need to try keep my notes clean -- the other notes ring out when I play the scale... )
