Hi Roman,

We are continuing with MTP program for December in this thread. I have decided to push you a bit further with chords since you had trouble with part 1 lessons for triads in C major scale. I think it will help you a lot to learn notes on the fretboard, expand your chord vocabulary and get your fingers used for some unusual shapes and positions (things you might have never played before after all). So for your 1st assignment I will assign Triads in C major scale part 2 lesson.

Here is your 1st assignment...

Deadline for your 1st assignment is one week from today (14th of December).

- Record audio and/or video of Triads in a C major scale part 2 lesson found HERE
- Use the backing track I am providing you bellow
- Feel free to use your own fingerings but I strongly suggest once you find a way stick with it!
- Post your work in this thread (mp3 or Youtube are both fine)

Let me know if you have any questions. Look forward to your work Roman !

Pedja

Hey Pedja,

i think this is the right direction to go on biggrin.gif Thanks for this assignment.

cheers Roman

Ah i have one question. In this lesson series you talk about harmonization with diatonic 2nds. What does this mean. What i see is that we play the whole C Major scale in this lesson up (C,D;E etc.) is this a harmonziation with diatonic 2nds. I hope this makes sense in a way.

cheers Roman

Hey Roman,

We will continue working on this one once you have REC uploaded and ready for November. To answer your question, harmonizing in diatonic 2nds means going up in scale or down . So C major scale, C D E F G A B C, we harmonize as notes appear in their natural order.

Hey Pedja,

here is an mp3 with me playing the lesson. What i can say about my playing is that i really improved how the chords sound. i didn't had the chance to practice this a lot one but i think the result is ok.
What i found out that i could played it more relaxed than the first one and the picking wit my fingers was smoother.

Hope you like it.

cheers Roman

Hey Roman,

You are right, this sounds better then the previous take! I like it a lot, now the sound is more even notes come out more... The only thing I could recommend right now is to change the pickup and try to use more bass sounding one or somewhere in the middle, this was very treble sounding wink.gif

4th assignment :

Theory reading :

- Write out in this thread all notes for 3 and 4 part harmony in C major.

Here they are:

3 part harmony: I (C major) II (D minor) III (E minor) IV (F major) V (G major) VI (A minor) VII (B diminished) VIII (C major)

in detail:

I: C major : C E G
II: D minor : D F A
III: E minor: E G B
IV: F major: F A C
V: G major: B G D
VI: A minor: A C E
VII: B diminished: B D F
VIII: C major: C E G

4 part harmony:I (C major7) II (D minor7) III(E minor7) IV (F major7) V (G dominant7) VI (A minor7) VII (B minor7b5) VIII(C major7)

in detail:

I: C major7: C E G B
II: D minor7 : D F A C
III: E minor7: E G B D
IV: F major: F A C E
V: G dominant7: B G D A
VI: A minor7: A C E G
VII: B minor7b5: B D F A
VIII: C major7: C E G B

- Explain to me how do we build chords in the first place?

What do you mean with in the "first place"? I would say we use the Tonic chord formula: So the chord contain the notes on the intervals I III V.

- Write me what determines some chord progression to be in certain mode? How do we make a chord progression for D Dorian for example?

Well it is actually the group of chords (called Cadences) that describes the given mode. For the example D Dorian it would be:

I IV or I IImin: to say it with chords its like: D minor to G major or D minor to E minor.

Hope the answers are ok.

The Rec Video is coming tomorrow i want to practice it a little bit more. It is the end of the year so many things to do at the moment, but i will do it you can count on me.
