Kif Halak ?
(What's up in Arabic.)
With me ?
Al ham dilila . (Praise the lord in Arabic)

My last lesson was about combining metal techniques in metal. So I decided to make another one , because I didn't felt that I gave enough on this one . once again I would like to mention that most of my inspirations is coming from the wonderful job of the guitar players in the amazing band "Orphaned land". This lesson is mostly inspired by their album "Sahara" this is their first album. They wrote it when they were really young I think 18 or something. The album affects me a lot in the way I play metal.
In this lesson it is more heavy then the one before. Because I got myself Ezdrummer, and the wonderful kit of "drum kit from hell" I started to play with the double base something I never really had a chance to explore. And this is the result.

This riff is build on the Am harmonic (I think it is the major one ) I think it is interesting because the weight of this riff that is the A is not really at the begging of the riff and I feel it gives something interesting to the sound . once again try to work real good on the " hammer on " for me it is the foundations of this scales.

Usually with these parts with the double base I prefer to give something minimal in the background because we have to give the respect for the drummer that brings Bombs upon us. For me the most dominant part of the scale is centered near the half tone between the A and the Bb.

Here it is something I putted in order to finish this heavy feeling . it is just going down on the scale of Am in the fifth string . and it sounds really good with double base . with the metronome play 4 notes per bit .

From the point of view of composition after putting all this speed and weight in the music , adding a part like this it is like an answer for the previous part . I also go the lowest fifth chord I can find and once again put the dominant part of the scale in the Bb half tone . by the way when you on stage these parts are the most fun , it gives you time to rest or get crazy !!!.

Something l learned from Petrucci do the same thing over but with a slight change , and also I think the ending riffs are really petrucci. In other words (Thai words ) "Same Same But different ".

It is always a question how to enter the solo part. It is like first impression. If you will see just before the 1 beat is entering in the rhythm I stroke on teaser A5. So here I stroke an (+) to answer for this and lunched with a stretch. Another thing I would like to mention is the half tone that is so dominant in the scale.

What can I say , shredding guitar. Can you do with out it. try to set your metronome on 6 beats and put a mark on the 1 n 4 , and this way you will get the feeling of the marks but you won't loose the clicks in between . then you can swith back to ordinary count of 4 and and push the speed up when there is 3 notes per bit up until 132.

Here there is a pharse on the fifth of the scale the E note and then we finish with a (+) combined with hammer on pull of .

This is something I like to put in the end. It is a phrase based on the root note that jumps to say hello to the fifth. Usually it is used as an ending, and I feel it is doing well here also??

Shokran (in arabic thank you) for investing you time with me. I hope you like all the new stuff I putted, like ezdrummer . I will always be happy to hear comments. I try to take very seriously the critics you guys write. Till now I haven't found a way to mark my guitar frets better with out damaging the guitar I am sorry for that I will think about something.

Cheers

I really enjoyed your lesson man. All this arabic stuff brings back memories as I am originally half Iraqi. My grandfather from my mums side is a famous Iraqi musician, his name is "Ilham Al-Madfai" If you've ever heard of him..

Anyway, It sounds great, and keep up the excellent work!

Hey Eyal,

Another great lesson - this is the best so far. I love the scales you use, they are definitely a little off the beaten track, the Arabian influence gives a very different sound - and I like your use of the Harmonic Minor - I'll have to do a lesson on that sometime smile.gif. Your analysis always makes great reading - keep them coming!

Whoa, great lesson, definately a go for me when I get the time to practice. I like it how you always seem to be pretty much on top of my abilities, your lessons are challenging for me, but not to hard to play, and that's what I really like about them.

Something else, I think that there's a flaw in your tabs... I don't know whether the video is correct or the tabs (the video sounds better though, that's how I discovered it). I think this line:

A|---4h6--4h6r4-----4---7/----------4h6--4h6r4----4--5/----------------------|

should be:

A|---4h5--4h5r4-----4---7/----------4h6--4h6r4----4--5/----------------------|

Now, according to the schematics you provided, there is no D#, on the A string, in the A Phrygian scale... I don't know whether this has been mentioned before. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers, MerV
