I can only recommend this guitar strap!! It's a Dunlop Grommet strap - a really cool looking strap with reall leather ends and a total adjustabe length of almost 2 meters, and all that for arround 15 Euros!! I have a Japanese flying V (Gibson Flying V Copy I guess) (Tokina or something) It has been used and misused by many people for many years before I got it. It was painted and repainted (not guitar paint unfortunately) but I have scratched off all the paint myself thinking of starting to make is as good as new. But after I did that, I never got the paint here so is naked as it is now. It would be great to follow this thread and see what I will need and hopefully have more energy to fix that. It's not that bad actually, at least not on the Gibson... The Strap pin is at the height of the 19th fret while the neck joint begins at the 17th fret, which means I keep my thumb on the neck joint when reaching to the 20+ frets. I never get in contact with the strap pin so it doesn't bother me much... I found that it makes not much diffrence which straplocks you use because they are all roughly the same size. I dislike the Dimarzio Straplocks (I am talking about the ones that come with a strap that clips together like a backpack). I don't think they are secure enough to hang heavy guitars on them. I took two hours but it wasn't difficult at all if you know your way arround soldering and follow the instructinal wiring. So why am not finishing the guitar now that all parts are there? WELL I FORGOT TO BUY A BATTERY FOR THE EMGS Well I will finish this beauty tomorrow when I got the stupid 9V battery... Oh and since it's a custom made guitar I did some modifications of my own: I molted some holes into the bridge volume pin to make it stand out and give it more grip when playing live with sweaty fingers! My active wiring was correct! I tested it by holding the pickguard with the electronics against the strings of a diffrent guitar, and I got sound out of the amp (better test before installing^^). Turns out I had wired the bridge pickup to the neck-switch position^^. I fitted the pickguard, installed the bridge and strung it up (which goes very fast thanks to the locking tuners) and had a little go on it and it sounds great and everything is working!!! I still have some work to do as I am missing a screw for one volume knob (it is hanging loose in it's cavitiy), the bridge and nut need to be modified as I am playing 12-56 strings on this guitar and I need to properly set this guitar up and adjust the intonation as I will use it for Standard C, C# or drop B tunings. So here is my newest addition to the family I named her Ivory: I will try to record a soundclip for you guys and girls, if everything fails I will just take a video of me playing the V in the next rehearsal!
