I got a cappo for xmas and on the package it says "For nylon-stringed guitars" and my guitar is steel-stringed!
What will happen if I use this cappo on my guitar? Will it explode? :S

Maybe it only has to do with the material. Does the material resist the steel on the strings?

Not quite, but it will open up a Wormhole in the Space/Time Continuum and transport you and your Steel String Guitar to the planet of NyLonium whereby you shall be strung from a tree with new Nylon Strings until you learn your mistake!!!

Seriously though, you'll find that a Nylon Capo is flatter in profile and maybe wider than a standard one. Secondly you may find that your steel strings bite into and leave grooves in the clamp surface.

If it works you can use it. Possibly the steal strings will wear the capo as Jones suggested, but you got it for free anyway. Unless the present has sentimental value, you are free to destroy it anyway you want. wink.gif

Cool, so the only thing that will get damaged is the Capo. I care a little more about my guitar than the Capo tongue.gif

If you examine the capo, you will see very easily if it can create problems on the guitar neck. Does it have rough surfaces, is it too small/big for normal use, does it makes any un-normal contact with the finish, frets etc.. If everything is OK, I don't see why you cannot use it.
