Hi Luciana ..

Quick hello & thank you note for you .. Sorry it was early morning .. haha .. ignore the mess in the background tongue.gif

Here i the Lesson 4 on resonance redone

Now over to our current lesson ..Here are my takes on Lesson 5 - Singing & Guitar .. Enjoyed it a lot

You will notice that I still have breathing as well as loosing air issues but I'm still working on them.
The note that I had problem with was on Resonance Lesson (last note).

p.s - Is it correct that there is no REC for vocal training sad.gif sad.gif ?? The grading titles of REC revolve around guitar ..
What do we do? Can we start doing 1 cover song per month, just as an extra initiative and to have some fun?

Zen!

Thank you for your videos!!! biggrin.gif

About the lesson of Resonance, remember that I told you about losing air?... well in this lesson you are cutting the sound and this is not the answer for losing air. When you are singing naturally you not cuting the sounds. I'll do a video for you to explain more about this topic.

And Congratulations for all the improvisations you did! smile.gif you created a lot of beautiful songs there! I love it a lot! Maybe next time you can add lyrics on them! BUT! you have to open your mouth a little bit more. The sounds have to flow outside your body. and be careful about nasal sound! that you can fix only with open your mouth!

Zen you are right! We need a REC part here too. So, you could prepare the first song you showed me: " Broken". Cause in that song you are losing a lot of air there. So could be a perfect REC don't you think? and then we can see the difference.

JANUARY ASSIGNMENT NUMBER 2
: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...singing-lesson/

Let's see how you rock! using that scale.
Please I need you practice first the scale ( video 1 and 2) and then the improvisation (Main).

Good luck!

Hi Luciana,

Thanks for your feedback smile.gif Much appreciated

I'm very glad I did resonance lesson again coz this has brought up another of my bad habits. Although Im not sure i completely understand it.

I knew the problem of nasal sound would come up sooner or later (if you remember i mentioned it in my introductory post). I really want to fix it too, so will try to open my mouth more.

So currently, to shortlist the issues that we have dscovered that need lot of work are:

- Loosing air - continuing to use breathing exercise to control this
- cutting the sound
- nasal sound - Need to open my mouth more while singing to fix this.

(Its better if i list it like that, so it gives me a clear visual idea of where I stand and what I need to work on smile.gif )
If you do decide to do a video message, please give me tips on fixing the last 2 of the above.

I LOVE dark and sad scales, so I think I'll enjoy the next lesson. Will start work on it today.
I already have some ideas on the improvisation. Writing lyrics might not be possible as I'm not good at it but will try but cant promise. I really need to be a in a zone to write stuff and that cant be induced.

Ok, I'll do broken for REC. ..It is a great song but becomes quite repetitive towards the end as the chorus repeats itself again n again n again ... so I might do some improvisation or cut the song short. But yes, the idea is to see how have i improved from my previous take and hopefully we should see that. smile.gif .... If not, I'll do it again n again untill it is good tongue.gif

Will we have a new titles for vocals REC? smile.gif (like we have for guitars ... learning rock star, tone guru etc ... ) ..
How will the difficulty of RECs be decided?

I know these are all ongoing discussions but would benefit all the future students greatly... We can set the rules/ guidelines etc as we move along smile.gif .. So I'm just putting the ideas out there to improve the program for everyone..

Thanks for all your help & support. smile.gif

p.s - which parts of the lesson is my voice gettin most nasal or is it everywhere?

Hi Zen

I'm so proud! wow! Such a big difference! Congratulation!

The pitch in the scale is perfet!

im so proud of you! great!

What a surprise the harmony in 3rd! great job! and the improvisations are excelent....

and speaking about improvisations here is your 3RD ASSIGNMENT OF JANUARY: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...singing-lesson/

I think it will be easy for you...but will see...

about the vocal Rec: I decided to not putting titles there, cause the voice it's not like a guitar that you can add difficulty so easy. In singing, perhaps you can add some topics of difficulty and other person can add to your voice another type of difficulty, you know what I mean?
So I That's why is too important for me individual classes, like this MTP. So I prefer just having a vocal Rec.

And I agree to add some improvisations in your song, you don't have any difficultry there! wink.gif

I'll do a video for you to explain this 3 issues:

- Loosing air - continuing to use breathing exercise to control this
- cutting the sound
- nasal sound - Need to open my mouth more while singing to fix this.

star to practice the new assignment and the Rec!

good luck

Thanks Luciana .. I'm glad you liked the takes. I'm proud to have you as my instructor smile.gif

I'm putting a lot of work into it. Even getting up early morning before work to get that essential practice of the day. (thats probably why i look so tired hahha)

If you will be doing a video please also address these issues:

-- If you notice on my last take whenever ive tried to hit a higher note, my voice is not able to hit it confidently. I really want to sing and hit higher pitches with confidence and without sounding off... will I ever be able to ? couldnt do harmonies in 5th's either coz they were just too high
-- my voice trembles/ shivers in slow passages.. for example .. passages like the first 3-4 lines of song broken. .. the voice really sounds broken hahaha and not controlled well .. this usually happens when very slow, constant exhale is required. ... I tried to sing broken the other day and it came out quite bad, much worse than when i first recorded it sad.gif .. will try again.

Hello Luciana,

Here's my take of the harmony assignment.. I found it difficult as the improvisation I came up with was not easy for me to harmonize laugh.gif ..
SO i did whatever I could and then jammed and hummed over it..
I had to pick up my guitar to figure out the harmonies too coz I cannot do it mentally yet..
I can for simple pieces but not for melodies involving many notes.

For REC I have recorded 2 songs.. one for December 09 MTP REC and the other for Jan 10 MTP REC.

Radiohead - Creep - Vocal Cover (Dec 09 - REC)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwoYKJQy5AQ

Seether - Broken - Vocal Cover (Jan 10 - REC)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZkdqPul_hc

Let me know if you are ok with it and then I will submt it in the REC forum for grading.
There are lots of mistakes in it but Please let me know if you hear any improvement..
I've also shared these with GMC here .

Looking forward to your video addressing those singing problems of mine smile.gif

Thanks for all your help
Zen

Hi Zen!
Im sorry of my delay, i had a little problem with my internet, just when i ask you about a video chat, but i was waiting for you for a few minutes and then my internet was broken.... but Im here now!!!

Well, I knew you will not have any problem with harmonies, I cannot understand the first harmony, cause i coudn't hear your lower voice well.
I love the last harmony you did, when I sing the lower pitch and you in the high pitch, I think is because the colors of our voices... Congratulations! you passed!

About the Rec: Did you hear the old version of "broken" and compares to the new one???? Wow !! I can hear the attitud now! it's better! YEAH!
But i can hear the nasal sound there.. OPEN YOUR MOUTH to sing! please!! hahahah,,, the rest is perfect, i love the new version!

about the creep song, I going to ask you to feel more confedent there, is like you want to control every note!,,, dont do that!! try to feel a rockstar on you! enjoy it!!!!! COME ON!! biggrin.gif

YOUR 4TH ASSIGNMENT OF JANUARY:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...singing-lesson/

Thanks for your valuable feedback Luciana biggrin.gif
I'm glad that your internet problems are resolved coz I am going to trouble you with a lot of questions laugh.gif

About the harmonies: I agree, the lower one was not very audible. I actully went up to 3rd's but couldnt sing it so I went one octave down from that 3rd's. Ya, singing harmonies with you was the best part of that lesson., hehe

About the songs:

Broken - Yes, nasal sound sad.gif .. will work on it ... controlling the note comes naturally coz i hate my voice when I dont control it sad.gif ..Can you mention some exercises which require opening the mouth more ? I also want to work on chest voice head voice transformation to achieve that SCREEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMM i always dreamt about. Oh well, maybe I wont be able to, but i'd like to try it.
Creep - - I was indeed reading the lyrics from the screen, heh .. coz i had just learnt the song. So that explains the lack of confidence.

Feel the rockstar on me ? hahhahaa .. ok , i'll try .. tongue.gif ... I'm relaxing and getting comfortable a bit with every video ... but not sure if I'll achieve the rockstar level , laugh.gif You're funny. smile.gif

About the songs, are we done or do I have to still submit them to the REC forum for grading?

Will start work on the next assignment today. smile.gif

Hi Luciana, Struggling quite a bit with this one... I cannot understand your main vid as it has 2 voices and both sound like your natural voice.. I have male voice so maybe that "switch" to falsetto is more audible in mine.. struggling to convert the sound from head voice to falsetto... u know that cluck
I tried doing the advance singers part of the lesson and I could achieve it within my headvoice (I think that's what it is .. coz my falsetto is really weak sounding .. like a girl child smile.gif (the annoying kinds laugh.gif )..... and nowhere did i feel the need to use it within this lesson.

Let me record somethin and then maybe it will be clearer of what I mean.. By the way, are you still planning to do that video ? smile.gif ... If you have'nt, please wait , coz we might need to add this one (head voice- falsetto differences etc to it sad.gif ) ...

This is VERY important for me.. especially working on a high pitched headvoice to increase my range and to do that I really wanna understand falsetto so i can differentiate it with head voice. I dont like falsetto that much and prefer to use head voice for high pitches but I'm not able to do that right now sad.gif

Anywayz .. this is what i came up with
