If identifying the serial, it says that its a 2005 model, Gibson made a Les Paul Supreme with that colour which i guess is called "rootbeer", it looks like a Supreme but the logo on the headstock and the fretmarkers are different, I dont know if they did any standards in this color since the pickups ís changed and maybe the volume/tone controls are as well..... but Zakk will know for sure!!! smile.gif

Yeah, Staffy. There just wasn't anything about this guitar that keyed me into knowing what it is. It has "elements," from some familiar LP's, but I don't know this one.

Hmm tricky one...

It has all the features of a Les Paul Custom (headstock, double binding, block inlays) on the other hand I have never seen a production model of a LPC with this kind of top...

The Serial is what throws me off because Customs have diffrent serial numbers and also the Customs have Ebony fretboards while this one clearly has a rosewood one.
Custom shop Les Pauls have a CS before a 5 digit serial number while this one hasa serial like a studio or standard.

I will look into it more - right now it COULD be a limited edition I don't know about OR a fake
You can also try posting this on the Gibson Forum or a Les Paul collectors forum, they will know for sure!

My hunch was that it was a fake. I went through Gibson's Serial number database and researched the guitar for a few days before I asked here. Thanks for the replies to date.

Ive seen them with this colour before, the supreme does spring to mind, the worrying thing for me is the case, never seen a tweed case with a gibbi before!

I just quote what an expert said to your pictures on another forum (he knows his stuff)

**
FAKE

There are a few giveaways
Bridge is wrong - Gibson always use the Nashville bridge made by Schaller - it never has a screwdriver slot in the post (even though that works well)
Tailpiece looks wrong too shape-wise - looks like a cheap copy part
Truss rod cover is wrong
Screws are of a kind that Gibson dont use
The rosewood board is wrong
The inlays look like plastic instead of real MOP
Nut is a far eastern kind and not the same as Gibson use
strap buttons are wrong - Gibson still insist on using those cr@ppy tiny aluminium or brass ones like they did in the 50s and if they are replaced then it is usually with straplocks

Pickup rings look wrong - just different to what Gibson use
Frets go over the binding instead of having the plastic nibs at the end - not true to Gibson
Case is wrong as well - just NOT what Gibson use

Take it as read - it's a fake
**

There you have it. It looks nice but it is not the real deal.

Thanks, Zakk. I saw the reply. I'll take a wide berth around this one.

I just got a note from the seller who has removed this item for sale after I forwarded information from the Gibson site, and here, with regards to this guitar. Interestingly enough, the serial number on this guitar, is shared by many of the fake Gibson's. I found four with the same serial number.

Cheers!

Man...that's scary! This is what makes me nervous about buying used guitars...you never know if it is real or not! You pay lots more for a new guitar...but you know it is real!
