Okay, guys! Since there is no lesson here on the GMC for Johnny B Goode,
I want to hear your own version of Johnny B. Goode - any way you like to
play it, with or without any backtrack. Since I can't sing, I am just
going to upload my version of the intro. and two solos - mid. and outro.
After trying several variations of playing this tune myself, this is my
best one so far. The first solo after my intro. was influenced by a
rendition of Johnny B Goode from a famous movie. Can you guess which one?
Anyways, I don't have the tools to do a collaboration or I would, but
this is just for fun - I would really like to hear some cool versions
from you students and instructors alike. ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE!!!
And the winners will receive....... a personal sense of accomplishment
along with smilies from appreciative listeners. biggrin.gif

WoW! The "Chuck Berry Style Lesson." It does start out
a-lot like Johnny B Goode as well. I searched the lessons
here on GMC for "Johnny B Goode" and couldn't find one.
Hope this isn't a bad post - I will brace for impact!!!
For the horrifying impact of deletion!!! Otherwise, I
would still like to hear some cool new versions. unsure.gif

The fact is that I usually play in these months a cover of that tune.
The funny thing is that on the first rehearsal with the band I was doing something wrong because I mixed the licks of my lesson with the original one... what a disaster biggrin.gif

We could not record covers at that time here on GMC. This is the reason for "In the style of..." lessons.

Guys - from the posting guidelines:

15. No Copyrighted Tabs. Please don't post tabs of copyrighted songs - for more information, look here.

So you cannot post a tab gp file etc as the song is copyrighted (Playaxeman - you need to remove your file btw).

The competition may be possible however if you put up videos on Youtube or similar nd not directly on GMC - I'll check with Kris. Please wait for his ok though.

Pending final approval from Kris, as stated by tonymiro (we will wait for Kris to post
his approval or disapproval here), I am upping the stakes of this contest myself. To
the winner will be awarded a new VOX Wah Pedal! Well, almost new - I tried it out 4-5
times myself and it works great. Consider it a demo model. I bought it at a far and away
Guitar center. Erie in its location, it appeared to me the midst of a distand fog that
seemed magically to appear out of nowhere, where the clerk said to me, "This is the exact
model used by Jimmi Hendrix himself!" He had an all familar face, but one that I couldn't
quite place. "And he who shall acquire this magical pedal will obtain the skills that make
legends!!!" I never could find that particular location again, it seemed to vanish with the
night as I departed. It still gives me chills. So then, Why am I giving it away for a contest?
Because, my fellow musicians, it was not meant for me, but for some one... some one else.
I am only the messenger, and now the time has come.

The complete contents of this award include :

1. 1 V847-A Vox Wah pedal. List Price $175.00
(includes a handsome carrying case).
2. 1 Spot 12V adaptor (wall plugin) List Price $39.95
Can also use a 9V battery (not included).
3. 1 Extra guitar cable 15-20FT long. About $14.00

I paid about $139.00 for the whole package (not a bad deal).
Please see the contest rules proposal and photos below. Note:
the products shown in the photos below are the exact products
the winner of this contest will receive. The cable is not shown
in the photos but will be included with shipment to the winner.
Keep in mind, this is a very special cable as well.......

My Propsal:

Submissions from instructors and students is welcome. I'm looking for 6 instructors and 4
more students to help judge this contest, with myself included. This means with 11 judges
the contest is less likely to result in a draw/tie. Only one prize can be awarded to one
winner. One video submission per candidate only. The first 6 instructors and 4 students
(or student/instructors) who state their willingness to be a judge in this this contest,
only after Kris posts his approval (and not before) will become judges. I will announce
who all the judges will be on a future post, all dependent on the timely response of every
willing participant. Note: only one post per applicant to be a judge will be accepted
(the first post made). Judges can participate but not vote for their own submissions.

Judges will rate submissions based on the originality & skill of the player while with all
maintaning that Chuck berry feel to a relative degree - with or without a backing track.
Guitar intro./solos should not be an attempt to create an exact copy the original Johnny B Goode.
Those who submit singing with their submissions will be given an extra 1 or 2 points based
on how well he/she sings the song. If singing is included, the person playing lead guitar in
the video must also be the singer. Judges will add these points accordingly. Those who submit
guitar playing only (shortened versions or not) will be judged by a points ratio of 1-10.
1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest score one can achieve based on guitar playing
skill alone. (eg. intemperateControl score: singing 1; Guitar 5). No partial or half points
(eg. 7.5) will be admissable. Finally, any backing tracks (self made or not) should not be
a consideration for additional points, although this can lend appeal to the overall sound.

In the unlikely event there is a tie, the candidates will go into a final death
shredding match that will last no less than a 0.60 seconds, and no longer than 1:30.
Either way, the candidate with the most overall points will win the contest.

The contest will start the same day Kris posts his approval. I personally can not win and,
therefore, no votes for my submission should be cast, since I am the sponsor. The contest
will last for 25 days after Kris posts his approval. But, in the event that Kris posts
disapproval, I can only assume this thread should be deleted sometime soon thereafter.
Guess that's about it - this concludes my proposal.

Yeah, this is a cool one !!! biggrin.gif
I've been playing it for years long time ago, but I'm still unsure of the words in the second verse, I mixed up "gunning sack" and "railroad track" all the time, it just made my tongue go crazy!!! laugh.gif

EDIT: Btw. what I really miss here at GMC is not a lesson on the song, rather a lesson on the duckwalk! tongue.gif

Oh well, not really. Last time I did it was in the garden in my shorts with the neighbours watching, I've expected the ambulance to come and bring me to the nearest mental-institution any minute but nothing ever happened. Wonder why???
