Hey Guys,

I haven't been posting much lately but been practicing a lesson which I will record soon. I am gathering energy to challenge myself and trying one impossible lesson (at least for me at this point) and see if I can get this in 2 or even 6 months. My current speed level is 130bpm and this one is at 170bpm. It can take a year or never achievable who knows but I will have something to practice apart from other lessons. smile.gif

So, apart from starting slowing and gradually building speed what else should I be considering to reach this level?

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/legato...cking_advanced/

I know its too ambitious but I believe this can be achievable at some point. smile.gif

Cheers!!

I will keep updating unless my fingers get whacked and be unable to type. wink.gif

Yes, it is very ambitious, but that is a great thing. smile.gif

In this case, you plan to dedicate a large amount of time to reach your goal, and sometimes it is hard to keep the motivation and the focus at a high level. I suggest you record yourself during the process - audio, video...whatever. Listening to a recording of yourself from weeks ago can be a good motivation boost - you'll notice the improvement you've made and that will give you a sense you are moving forward, thus making you practice even harder. smile.gif

Another thing - try to implement what you've learned up to some point. Lets say...you've managed to push the speed limit to 150 bpm. You are still not at 170, but how about jamming to a backing track at 150? Were you able to to that before, when your limit was 130? That's also a great motivation boost.

And finally, try to add other activities to your practice schedule. It will make things way more interesting and it will make you a balanced player.

Good luck! wink.gif

Good luck on that. I'm working on that lesson, too. Like you, it will take me a long time to get it up to full speed.

Can't wait to hear your take.

Thanks Guys. Really helpful tips Damir.

As always, first i will be familiar with the fingering. Its not a usual fingering and my fingers are already noticing it. smile.gif AP was really hard at 130bpm although I did try to get to 140 last time. I haven't practiced at at higher speeds these days since MTP / REC mainly involved theory and slower takes. I will definitely start now. Even if I can reach say 150 or even 170, the main problem that has consistently been on my side is timing. This should really be ultimate challenge to that too.

Hayes, what speed can you play to right now? You can do level 8 lessons which suggest that this should be quite easy for you. biggrin.gif

You are doing all the right things. You've set goals and clearly identified 'measurable' (bpms) milestones. I am sure you will see progress in no time. Building up speed is one of my goals as well and I'll keep an eye on your progress for motivation and inspiration.

Antoher thing you will need lots of is support from your family.. as this WILL require a lot of hours. It will take a lot of hard work and your wife might hate you (and your guitar) a little bit more but I'm sure you can handle it wink.gif .. To win her support, you can try proposing an idea for a gift for her once you reach 170bpm laugh.gif laugh.gif

Goodluck bro .. You can do it !!

I can probably play all of the legato parts up to speed. It's the picking stuff that's slowing me down. I'm probably about where you are with that.

The only advice that I can give you is the one you already know - work hard, be patient and accurate and speed will come in time. That's really the truth. It's definitely more of a psychological thing that physical, becasue we have the endure in the metronome battle biggrin.gif

Thanks Ivan. I will keep that in mind. I have experienced a little when I crossed the 120 mark (which was a real pain) and now can play upto 150 (straight ups and down the string scale) and I didn't even notice I could do that till yesterday. haha. smile.gif I am trying to get my accuracy and timing definitely with this lesson because I suck at it at faster paces as you have seen.

Thank you Crazy_D. If we are not ambitious we won't achieve much. Thats what I am doing. wink.gif

Just to add, I have been setting goals so I could improve. I started out with level 3 lessons and that even was hard for me then. I then gradually tried out level 4, then 5 and now 6. I even tried 7 but it wasn't that good. Now, I am trying to jump to level 9 and faster licks because even if I can't do it, I will at least be able to play level 7 or 8 lessons then 9 will eventually come. smile.gif Sshhh... that was my secret. wink.gif

Cheers!

This is a very good plan! Its imporatant to set goals that are withing reach and gradually rise the stakes. That way you will have insight into your progress and don't get discouraged. Its one step at a time that always works wonders...

Ah. Thanks all for your support. Honestly, I haven't been practicing this particular lesson. It's pretty hard. But I have been trying few other lessons just to practice more before I try that lesson. The good thing is I have improved my legato a bit, 32 triplets at 72 bpm. Does any one know what it's equivalent 16th is?

I have been trying another lesson entirely focusing on AP too for last 2 days. Today, just now I can virtually do 130bpm 16th triplets, and it's not just 1 bar, it's the stamina building lesson. The whole day I've been doing this. Right now, my arms are so stiff, I sweated, nervous breakdown, arms aching, but looks like I can do this. Just feeling happy about this whole experience.

I'm definitely getting there now.

Cheers guys. I ll post a REC soon after few more days or weeks.

Nothing is impossible man. I thought the same when I was going for some very difficult solos. Even if you take 2 bars a day that still means you'll make it in a month or two. But the good thing is when you finally make it every other one will become easier. Good luck

Thanks Emir. smile.gif

This morning, I just tried with the metronome and I can do 16th triplets at 130bpm. So, I am guessing that I can do 16th at 170bpm as well. smile.gif Need to try.

Been really a challenging last few days. will post when I make a REC.

Cheers!
